Disney's Toontown Online is closing on September 19th. While this is an old, unpopular game, it's still a game. http://toontown.go.com/closing
Lots of teenagers seem to play it. People are pretty upset over this, check this https://www.change.org/petitions/bob-iger-lisa-peabody-mihai-pohontu-john-pleasants-disney-keep-toontown-open-facing-the-real-cogs and this https://www.change.org/petitions/the-walt-disney-company-sell-toontown-online-back-to-jesse-schell out. They're change.org petitions. The first one actually has 12,000 signatures, which is quite impressive considering this game's small fanbase. I was looking through the reasons for signing and I found a lot of reasons that were about childhood, but there were also quite a few that went beyond that and included bits about self harm and how friends that they had met over this game had helped them through it or something along those lines. It's surprising. To me, at least.
An article was posted on CNN( http://www.cnn.com/2013/08/23/tech/gaming-gadgets/closing-toontown ) about this because an iReport ( http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-1024578 ) started to get really popular about this. 97K views on the iReport. However, as I said before this game also seems to largely appeal to teens. Here's a https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fv4tgmJgUFc video of a teenager that's rather popular in that community crying. You can't see him, but you can tell that he's crying from how it sounds. People are really upset about this. People really care about this game, though, it surprises me.
I wasn't sure if this should go in General Discussion or here, so I'm sorry if it's in the wrong place. An old friend of mine who's one of those teens that plays this game(I'm still in school.) notified me of this. It's not that big of a deal to me because I played it when I was seven and I've grown out of it, but I understand why people are crushed by this. It's just a bit sad.
