I need to transfer all data from a Windows 7 to a Windows 10 machine. What would be the best software to transfer all of that over? Maybe an easy method possibly using a tool in Windows? I am so green with this I have to ask!
I know how to do simple file transfers but the whole image transfer I want to do properly…
in that case…
install windows on the new machine.
plug in the old drives and copy the files over.
no software needed.
or connect the old machine to your network and copy the files.
if your thinking you can copy over your installed software…
you cant.
you will have to re-install them programs via there installers on win 10.
but the user data for the most part can be dragged and dropped from the user directory’s.
d-lan is super easy and free, no setup - just put it on both computers, it also does a hash check after to make sure the files transferred well, which is a boon when you are moving a lot of large files
Ok, I know this much. I wasn’t sure 100% but kind of figured. Then I’m pretty set I guess. I’ve done this many times but thought there was some easy way. There are always growing pains! This makes full sense. I just needed to hear it from others I guess. Thank you!
The old machines run so I will just use an extra SSD and transfer everything over and avoid the networking. Either way I am going to look into d-lan.net. Sounds very intriguing!
