I would like to diable my windows key without a third party app.

this use to be my solution, but its gone and i didn’t back it up.

Where would we be without the Wayback Machine*? Here’s the good part:

To disable the Windows key, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedt32, and then click OK.
    2. On the Windows menu, click HKEY_LOCAL_ MACHINE on Local Machine.
    3. Double-click the System\CurrentControlSet\Control folder, and then click the Keyboard Layout folder.
    4. On the Edit menu, click Add Value, type in Scancode Map, click REG_BINARY as the Data Type, and then click OK.
    5. Type 00000000000000000300000000005BE000005CE000000000 in the Data field, and then click OK.
    6. Close Registry Editor and restart the computer.

*Without the Wayback Machine, we would be in the present

edit: the link didn’t work when I tried it before, weird. I figured MS just deleted the article.

The reg edit doesnt work, I should have said that, that one is my fault.

what isn’t my fault, as well I specially said the download, which is different then the reg edit, and as was just posting the wayback machine was useless in both cases, as the current web page has the reg edit, and neither page has the download…

It probably works fine but is a chore since one can’t paste anything into that binary field. This web page has a reg file download and it appears correct for what I can see:

Failing a regedit, a good mechanical keyboard will let you remap keys or reprogram them.to anything else you want. So you could disable it in the keyboard you use and then every system you go to with that keyboard with have the win key disabled.

Or you could assign anything else you want like a Fn key for other secondary functions on keys.

It works on my LTSB machine.
