Direct X wont install

so, my girlfriend keeps hassling me to play this horror game with her. i dont use my laptop to game so when i try to run the game it comes up with the error "the program can't start because d3dx9_43.dill is missing from your computer. try reinstalling the program to fix this problem" 

i think this has something to do with direct x, although im not to sure. So, i reinstall the game and the same comes up again. i've downloaded direct x and that just comes up with "installation failed"

i have no clue what is wrong, i'm not a pc gamer (yet) so i could do with some help.

Well, if the MS install is not working I would reboot and try again. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35

Since this is an old game, you might be ok if you install an older version of direct X. Just try DirectX 9.0c: http://www.oldversion.com/windows/directx/

had this problem before.

put this file in the game folder where the .exe file is (if the dll isnt already in there)

Also put it in these folders but do not overwrite them

C:\Windows\SysWOW64

C:\Windows\System32

the game now boots but it just goes to a black screen. i dont know what else to do. i've been at it for like 5 hours

what game is it? and are you on windows 7 64bit if so run the DirectX installer as admin and also run the game in admin

it's a game called damned, it's in alpha. i am on windows 7 64bit. okay i'll try again and see how it goes
