So I have been looking and waiting for a new pci-e ram disk to come out like my old http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815168001 but after realizing that will probably not happen I found DimmDrive software on reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace and tested it out. It is awesome, so I thought I would share some benchmarks with all of you
The only way to make a big difference compared to just having the RAM as freely available for disk cache is when one can fit the whole game onto a RAM disk. That's rarely feasible with big modern games, and smaller ones don't usually load that much. Just get an SSD and you'll be close enough.
That said, I'm still using a RAM drive for other things like TEMP folder, browser cache and Photoshop scratch. There is a free program for RAM drives up to 4GB from http://memory.dataram.com and they don't make outlandish claims.
