Im rebuilding a Dimension 9200 PC i found in a lot. Has almost all the parts, the power supply has some cut cords, and the hard drives are missing, and part of the motherboard is burt, but only like two centimeters. I want to make this PC a good gaming rig, and need help. This will be my first build, and im willing to experiment a little. I already have a GEFORCE GTX 660 graphics card, but thats it. All information, tips, or help is welcome
You're probably screwed, does it even work? you'd probably just want a new PSU, and you might need adapters for the motherboard, what's the CPU in it?
well, when i plug it in, it has lights that turn on, but no sound, and the power button doesnt do jack. The CPU is intel i3.
Then take everything out of the motherboard and see if it beeps.
otherwise what would your budget for new, probably working parts be?
and is the RAM DDR3?
Are you sure there's an i3 in there? Google search shows that thing as an LGA 775.
And what part of the motherboard is burnt??? The amount that is burnt, no matter how small, is irrelevant. The fact is, it's BURNT. Something happened that made it fry. If it's around the VRMs, it's definitely trash.
Power supply seems like trash, too.
It sounds like a waste of money to get that thing running again since lower end new hardware and used old hardware overlap in price very often.
If it IS infact a 775, it's DDR2.
My budget is 800$ at the most
Alright, so i took out the intel, which is an i2 duo, though the sticker on the outside i3, the computer was an old military rig, so some things are better than others. The motherboard does power on, but it doesnt connect to the usb ports

I do have a GEFORCE GTX graphics card, and i have a few extra CPUs, all of which are intel, and a secondary motherboard, id have to get the specs later. I have more power sources, tho i do not know the wattage
Wait like $800 US? why are you trying to rebuild an old broken down machine then?
Do you need like a monitor and stuff too?
This one's pretty solid for 1080p gaming

Yeah, dumping $800 into that machine will be a waste. It's old, it's DDR2, it's LGA 775, its motherboard is burnt and probably partially dead. Trash it, or give it away, and build something new from the ground up.
And military grade PC or not, it's still obsolete hardware and is just as bad as any other run of the mill old PC. And FYI, a well built custom PC should have better quality components than a regular "military" PC. That's just a regular prebuilt PC, too.
Honestly a P4 dell is worth more time to mod and rebuild by hand than that thing in its current condition.
Yea, US dollars, but i already have Monitor, but the PC you have shown looks pretty good, thanks man
Might be worth it to go for a 380X, they should be around $200
