Does anyone know anything about the digital signature that enterprises(or schools) use when setting up Chromebooks? My school very recently gave every student a Chromebook and I've been tinkering with mine, taking it apart and stuff, but I really want to put a lightweight linux distro on mine. I know I am capable of doing it, but my problem is that I cannot wipe the Chromebook to install the new OS, anyone have any insight?
(I wasn't sure which thread to post this at so sorry in advance if this post belongs somewhere else)
So it looks like my school, despite my having paid for the chromebook, still has it being managed. I cannot even access developer mode because forced re-enrollment is automatically turned on, which disables me from totally wiping the device to get an unmanaged version of the Chrome OS. So i am going to have to try to get the Tech Support at my school to put my in the certain section of the Chromebook Admin Panel that disables forced re-enrollment. Which I highly doubt they will do for me... I am considering asking for a refund and just bringing my ThinkPad to school. This is too bad considering how nice the Chromebook is compared to my ThinkPad. Oh well, I guess. Unless any of you guys know a way to get around the Forced Re-Enrollment feature thats automatically turned on as of ChromeOS v37, maybe a way to downgrade my ChromeOS version?
EDIT: I am also not able to change the Channel of my Chromebook. This setting is also enforced by an Admin.
press and hold esc+refresh+power button then you can insert a liveUSB (i only use chromeOS images, but I think you can use any image) and it will begin to install the fresh OS
