Did my mother cook her cpu?

It was an FX 6100 overclocked to 4.7GHz on a 212 evo. 4x4GB ram

The fan on the heatsink broke and she was too stubborn to buy a new fan OR EVEN LESS ME LOWER THE CLOCK. So she put a regular air flow fan on it...which is the same as no fan at all...ran it like that for months

Two days ago I made her buy a new fan (a cougar)

Yesterday, She was installing Max Payne 3 and her computer shut off (she honestly thought a virus did it in)

I was only able to get the motherboard to post twice, crashing in the bios.

I tried the cpu in two different motherboards (ASRock 990fx fatality, Gigabyte 970 thing), tried with a single stick of ram, different ram, two different PSUs, ever mix of anything

The motherboards acted exactly the same with the cpu in as it would of if it was taken out, didn't even seem to see it.

So I'm pretty sure the cpu is shot (didn't even know that was possible), I noticed that the 8-pin was plugged into the cpu, rather than the 4+4 pin...don't know if that did anything...just noting it.

anyone have any suggestions on a possible solution? she is planning to replace it with am 8320, but would rather not if possible...(though, I'm pretty sure there is no other option)

yeah...that sounds like a dead CPU. If it won't work in other motherboards its a dead cpu.

^

Time for a new CPU

Well....great...

I was expecting someone to make a joke about baking it :P

that sounded sexist, and I am against sexism.

Your mom overclocks her cpu and plays Max Payne?

uh...no?

I was making a joke about how people bake gpus, ram, freeze hardrives...trying to make them work again...

...yes...

half the time she plays World of Warcraft and Diablo III...and something else that I can't remember...

sorry im a bit drunk in celebration of the german victory in the world cup. I was thinkin you were making a joke about your mom baking a gpu. Like you know, a woman baking in a kitchen. along those lines.

Sorry if I was offensive.

none taken

she wants to spend the extra money on the 8350, even though the 8320 is the same chip.

and all shes doing is playing world of warcraft, she literally gave up all other games to protect her computer...

I'm sobbing internally for all eternity.

And she thinks she needs a water cooler to run one, so she want to get a $60 POS over the D14 that would cool infinitely better.

She cant afford OR FIT a Kraken x60 or H110 and sure as FUCK am not sitting there to OC the thing while she's whining like a little bitch because her raid is about to start in 2 hours.

She's going to kill this one just like the other because she sure as hell is too lazy to do it right. And I'm PRETTY DAMN sure she doesn't need more than a 6300 for WoW, I bet a 4300 would be exactly the same for her considering the thing doesn't use that many cores.

lol too funny for sympathy. You should have a blog about this. Call it "my life with a mom who is a PC gamer."

Baking? i thought that was a 420 joke not a kitchen joke :/

no sympathy here-

mostly apathy-

I didn't say she never WAS baked at some point.

Did somebody say WASDed?

Wait , will her motherboard handle the 8320 ? And you don't need to oc it .

Also , maybe just replace the cooler on the hyper 212 , with a noctua  ?

In the end I immagine she is paying for all this , so it doesn't matter if it's more expensive .

I have the same sort of problems with my brother , but then aggain , he is jusy my brother xD

If it's the Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P, or ASROCK Fatal1ty Killer, they should both be able to handle it just fine.

However, if it's a cheaper motherboard, then I'd be a bit concerned.

How do you even get a 6100 to 4.7 ghz? and on a 212 evo I got my FX6300 to 4.6 on a 120V from Cooler master.

Good ? by my exp. its starts getting dicey about 3.9 4.0  3.6 to 3.8 is where most fall in the point of diminishing returns.
