Did Level1Techs and Tek Syndicate actually miss Linux based 150$ phone?

Some of us have one. Neat concept and great development vehicle, but it’s ultimately a bit frustrating to work with due to how limited it is on the hardware front. So I can see why they’d wait til next generation to cover it.

The thing just chugs and the USB-C connector is… bad.

We have a mega thread on linux phones, and the majority of the discussion recently is about the pine phone.

I’m working on expanding that. I just ordered 3 different phones that aren’t PinePhones, two of which I’m going to load Ubuntu Touch on, and the 3rd one comes from the factory with Ubuntu Touch, but that’s not shipping to me until January.

I have Sony phones with Sailfish OS on my radar as well.

I just got one in and am working on it. It’s neat, but isn’t ready for the masses yet. Neat though.

I think the most frustrating thing about the pinephone is that it’s got the exact opposite problem to all the other Linux phones in the past. The hardware is supported but the high level software support isn’t there yet.

But I think that’s actually proof that the pinephone can work. It just needs time to mature.

And this will hopefully give us a more flexible software stack for Linux phones in the future.
