Did Apple ever resolve the USB-C + wi-fi issues on the 2016 MacBook Pros?

I remember that Louis Rossmann (along with tons of other users and forum posters from across the web) found an issue where certain USB devices would render the wireless internet on the 2016 MBP useless or make it disconnect. What was the reason for this happening? Was it ever solved if it was a software or driver issue? Does this problem exist on the newer 2017 models? I’m curious as to how something like this could happen and be overlooked in testing. Was there ever a resolution or official explanation for this experience?
