I'm looking for something new to play and I have never played Diablo 3, is it worth the £15 to get it an play now? from what I've seen posted online it is not due to a lack of endgame content, buuuuuuuut I would rather hear an opinion from this forum as I trust hear one hell of a lot more.
I like the game a lot, I've actually never stopped playing. All the patches they did balanced the game and made it fun, but it's only worth it if you also get the expansion.
You can play it offline on console. But the PC gets all the fun updates and stuff.
@anon5205053 While I'm not a fan of always on DRM, in this case it's actually nice. A huge issue with D2 was all the hacks going on. Actually even the console D3 vs PC D3 is a good example, the console version is littered with hacked gear and basically broken multiplayer, while PC is able to keep a balanced game play.
I played the hell out of d2 lod and it was awesome. I played d3 and it just wasn't doing it for me. I haven't played the expansion so I can't comment on that. There are a few free games that are just like Diablo. One is on steam but I can't think of its name atm. I'll edit this later when I remember.
I played it for about a month (no expansion) and it was pretty fun for a while, but in the end got super repetitive and boring. Also, probably one of the easiest games I have ever played. In the entire month I only died once, and probably only went below 50% health about 4 or 5 times. It is a very beautiful game, visually and atmospherically though.
In essence it's a slot machine. You mash buttons and it has carefully timed flashing lights, loud sounds and big numbers to reward you in small doses, and keep you mashing away. At the end of the day it didn't feel worth the $19.99.
I'm active on D3 and I really enjoy it. It's pretty much the same game-style D2 was, a game separated into two areas, the one for enjoying the campaign, and the grindy multiplayer part, where you constantly up your game with different challenges and go through many hours to obtain the best gear and reach the max lvl*. It has mixed reviews, as Blizzard appealed to a large audience, which made many people not interested into a grindy rpg experience to respond in a negative way. But those who know into what they were buying don't have the same opinion. If you want to go through the campaign and leave it at that, it may not be worth it for you (unless you are a huge fan of the Diablo lore). But if you want to be playing it during hours into the night with players that you just met into a public party, trying yo achieve some good items at the highest end difficulty setting, then I can say it's still a solid buy.
I got it for Playstation 3 and it was okay. It didn't feel much like Diablo at all. I probably would have liked it a lot better if it was a new property with no expectations.
as much as i hate internet required DRM i give D3 a pass on it seeing how i only play with friends online. end game with reaper expansion is mind numbing boring if you dont play with friends or others. personally i would recommend playing the story mode at least once. adventure mode is all late game has so if you start with it its meh. they added challenges to the seasonal characters that give you set pieces and encourage you to work on achievements. the gear grind is still real and long even with the easy gear. overall id give D3 with expansion a 7/10
I've enjoyed the game a lot since the Reaper of Souls update. The recent patch added a lot of depth to the gearing choices and can seem overwhelming to a new player, but also gives a lot to the long term player. If you're not a loot whore, you might not enjoy the game a ton. There's basically two things keeping a person playing Diablo III these days:
You're a loot whore (I admittedly am) and you just want all the things
You like pushing your character to the highest level greater rift possible. (greater rifts are zones where you're required to kill monsters under a certain time limit and at the end you fight a boss. If you beat it under the time limit then you're able to progress to the next level where the monsters will do more damage and have more health.
A lot of issues with it have been fixed. Problem is the game isn't very long and even though they have added stuff to do once the game is over I feel like it's not enough to bring someone back after one okay through.
