Is this usually something that happens before Linux support comes?
I don't follow steam's release methodology.
I'm just wondering, if it's gonna be opengl or even vulkan?
Probably gonna end up being opengl though, since they already made a DX12 version and want to release it for macos as well...
It will be both probably. You being able to choose the graphics heading. I have also heard of them going back and porting the other games.
That would be amazing. Square Enix publishes so many great games. They let feral port Tomb Raider 2013 already.
Dunno how much effort it is to port DX12 to Vulkan. They might have the same goal, but the approach might be different? I don't think DX12 is based off Mantle.
Theres not really a process to do it, its 2 different dev lines I think.
It usually is. It appears that the game has been ported by Feral Interactive.
Also it will probably be an OGL port since the DX12 version is not even out for windows (sept 5th) and what Feral Interactive does is they have a DX -> OGL wrapper that translates DX calls to OGL calls, this makes the games a bit more CPU bound.
Just keep in mind. If the game is being ported by another developer (if it's feral they are very good) they will only get the sale counted as a Linux sale if you play it on Linux the first two weeks for the majority of the time.
Sucks for me though, most ports from Feral Interactive don't run well. It's a mixture of having bad drivers for the R9 390 (amdgpu is bugged without radeon.dpm=0 with cards such as the 390 & 390x) and a okayish port. If you have NVIDIA though, it should be good. If a game runs well though, I'll play it on Linux, otherwise I have a Windows 10 install.
OP II only liked your post because of the love for the Carlton dance. As for Linux and DEUSEX I could care less. LOL!
Emphasis mine.
??? I'm rocking an R9 270, and best I can tell Aspyr Media, and Feral Interactive are neck and neck for who makes the best Linux ports.
Their ports are okay. They aren't bad and they aren't great, usually depends on the game too.
Also, different cards get different results on amdgpu.
if your ever feeling down, rock a carlton gif .
if your ever feeling up, rock a carlton gif.
glad you posted here...
It is official.
Its official! awesome.
Is it just MD or is there any hope for HR?
They said on their twitter, HR isn't officially coming, but if it does they will let people know.
Not sure. I think if anything that would come later on.
I seem to recall someone mentioning that the Steam database had a spot for Deus Ex on Linux, and everyone was getting super hyped about it. Maybe that was another forum. But I came across this little gem, and thought I'd share it here. The news is 13 hours old. Hopefully I'm not too late to the party.

Frankly this couldn't have come at a better time. Windows 10 barely made it to 2 weeks on my system, and only for a few days after I got Mankind Divided. It wasn't enough time for me to finish the game before Windows shat the bed. I had work that needed to be done, and I needed a fast and reliable OS to do it on. With those requirements in mind, I went back to Linux with full intention to work harder on getting my Windows VM to a point where I could game in it. Now I'm in absolutely no rush to get Windows on my system again. Life is being pretty good to me at the moment. :)
More games and better drivers on linux, then we can say good reddens to Windows 10
