Anyone intend on using this? I figured since I got the HIB I would try it and redeem my code from it, why not.
It's pretty much a more community and mod oriented version of steam, made by Indie DB/Mod DB.
[quote]The aim of Desura is to provide gamers with a dependable interface which delivers the content they want to play in the quickest cross-pc way possible. At its heart is a digital distribution application which can serve (and patch) games, mods and addons to its members.
Released in 2009 by Desura Pty Ltd, a private Australian games company (which also runs the ModDB), Desura was in stealth development for 2 years. Thanks go out to all the game developers, indies and modders for distracting us. Without you Desura would have been released years ago. We hope you enjoy using Desura to change the way you and others play games as much as we enjoy running it. Without the community and developers, Desura is nothing more than a made up word. With the community, it's the best way to play something different.
What makes us different?
We don't make games ourselves, so we are entirely focused on helping game developers and publishers show off their wares. All tools and functionality provided by Desura to game developers, are provided to empower them to create a better game, and share its features in all their glory with the Desura community. Developers control the flow of news, images, videos and content through their profiles - we don't put up walls and barriers.
Every member of the Desura community can post comments, submit reviews and upload screenshots. We are not some mysterious editor in an ivory tower controlling content - it's anybody who can put pen to paper. Our screenshots aren't limited to some airbrushed press releases - they're taken by the gamers. Perhaps most importantly, opinions on gaming aren't just our own - they are the combined feelings and views of anybody who has taken a moment to make themselves heard.
User made content
There are plenty of great free mods and user made addons out there for games, which few know about and even fewer can install. Being able to customize your games is at the heart of everything Desura does, and we aim to make user made content as accessible as possible. From simple maps through to entire conversions and even whole new games, we hope to put what you want to play at your fingertips.
I probably won't end up using it much as I already have steam for it, but if anyone intends on getting it at all, you can find me here.
