Desperate Linux fan needs some help... V-V

Is the USB drive a type 2 or type 3? And what is the type of the USB you are connecting it to?

Are they of the same type?

Tried all portsā€¦ Its a Razer Abyssus 2014 & Logitech K120

Okay so all those are USB 2.0, and should work in USB 3.0 ports.

By chance do you have a laptop that you could SSH into the machine in question and monitor the kernel log?

No clue how to even SSHā€¦ :frowning:

from a linux host you just fire up a shell and type in ssh user@ip.

On windows you either need to enable the WSL or download and use PuTTy.

Okay so I just plug a cable from 1 PC to the other or does this work wireless?

ssh works over the network, so as long as you have an IP address on your desktop (wifi or wired) you can enter a remote terminal session from another computer on the network.

That can work, ok I will try this! Tough I am gonna reduce the CPU speeds by 50% just incase the damn thing messes with its clocks againā€¦

I got into the system without fail and saved the log from Linux Mint, it says a lot in here is there a way to copy paste it from the log file into the forum?

Click the gear icon, hide details, and then stick your stuff in there. Between code ticks.

[details="Summary"]
```
code goes here
```
[/details]

Well I got the file out before the USB died on me can I get the stuff out in Windows or do I have to move it to my laptop?

which log file did you grab?

ALL of it. :smiley:

Specifically where?

Also, if you machine is still powered on and you have the ssh session open, type dmesg for me.

If they canā€™t install a working Linux, then that wonā€™t fit the bill either. Just saying. OP asked for alt os that isnā€™t linux, mac or windowsā€¦

I gave them another option I know of, that runs on common hardware. There is a version of Solaris that will run on x86_64, but I think that would be even more of a lost cause.

With the ssh session open, remove your keyboard and mouse from the remote machine (desktop), and then reconnect them.

From the ssh session type in dmesg and then if there are any errors surrounding your mouse and keyboard they would appear at the bottom and most recent, and most likely in red as errors.

Could it be just a hardware fault. This is the worst part of PC problems. Not having hardware to swap out. Maybe the MB is bad.
