Desktop freezes and windows flicker #helpdesk

I use Ubuntu Budgie. On my laptop (T450s) everything works fine, but on my desktop (i5-6600k, 1080 (what are for some reason cheaper, than 1060s and 1070s) ) I have loads of issues. The most annoying is, when using nvidia drivers (both 390 and 396 produce the issue) the system just freezes and after a minute works for few seconds and repeats. The X.org xserver nouveau or whatever it is called freezes sometimes, but not all the time, but the certaint application windows flicker.
There are also problems with the budgie panel and since my 1 monitor is portrait, windows on my primary monitor go in to virtual space over the monitor, but those I can handle and have half-fixed…

If someone wants, I can give control over with anydesk.

Are you on 18.04 with the latest kernel update? Normally the open source driver will be the most stable. Do you happen to have another video card to swap in just to confirm that it is that driver/card causing the issue? Figured I’d ask the simple questions first.

https://ubuntubudgie.org/downloads 64bit 18.04, fresh install. I guess I have integrated graphics from the cpu…

That would be an easy way to test since you know how to replicate the issue. Pull the card and test, simple but effective. You also have the fresh install going for you which should make it easier to troubleshoot.

‘meanwhile’ basically one day after the install I managed to set a drive to auto mount to ~/Vii, it created a folder in the root as ~ and I was lazy not to sudo nautilus, but instead sudo rm ~ -R  Reinstalled…

Since then I have used nouveau, the default… No problems so far.
