Geeeeeeeeez
Remember when the GTX-1000 series was all about energy efficiency?
1kW GPU, jesus motorboating christ…
At this point and with the current prices they can just put it in an external enclosure with whatever external PCIe connection solution.
Wouldn’t be opposed to a PSU within GPU, this way we could at least get rid of the stupid high power 12V PCIe PSU cable. And it could be cooled with the GPU cooling solution itself. I mean the actual GPU board is short anyway.
If we are on it we could make the PCIe card holder from the server space (or older ISA, PCI slot holder) standard again to secure these Behemoths.
I would like it for the sake of seeing 5 PCIe Slot Mobos as mainstream again.
We did an insulation retrofit on our old stone house last year. The modelled heat demand after insulating was about 800Wh, we are actually using more like 900Wh! My current workstation actually produces enough heat to heat the house if running CPU and GPUs at max. I get this is a DC product, and perhaps it’s performance per watt is good, but it’s crazy power consumption on the surface!
Imagine cooling thousands of these in a DC or GPU cluster! Maybe we need to start building data centres under cities and using waste data centre heat to produce district heating, or electricity. Are data centres reusing waste heat for anything these days, or is it just getting dumped into the atmosphere or sea?

I am getting Voodoo 3 vibes.
