Dell 852X8 Board

I want to use Dell 852X8 with Dell C4130, do you think it will have any compatibility problems ?, and can I use one Dell C4130 with two 852X8 board ?, has anyone try it ?

My main purpose is to use one Dell C4130 server with 8x Nvidia Tesla V100-32GB-SXM2, using 2x 852X8 board, do you think it is possible ?

Hello, i can tell you that one 852X8 will work with the c4130, it is a supported configuration. Having 2 sxm2 boards i dont think will work. The 852X8 talks to the motherboard letting it know if all the propper cables are connected.

Another thing you should check out is this github tutorial, it is very helpful with sxm2 stuff.

Search google for:

“Github building a poor mans supercomputer”

I cannot post a link to it.

Using v100 sxm2 32gb model will have issues on c4130.

Using v100 sxm2 16gb has no issues same with p100 sxm2 16gb.

The c4130 sees the v100 sxm2 32gb but dell power limits them to 150 watt and says that there is an error. The github post tells you why this occurs and how to overcome it, but it gets technical.

The v100 sxm2 32gb was meant for the c4140 server.
This is just a built in issue by dell so people use it in the c4140 instead of the c4130.

I have a c4130 with 4x p100 sxm2 16gb.

Make sure to get the propper cables else the c4130 will not let them post

Ok… do you have tried 852X8 with C4130 ?, I don’t find enough documentation, but I from 852X8 pictures maybe it’s only support C4140, all SXM2 slots is labelled with C4140_SXM1, C4140_SXM2, …, but in another version is labelled as C4140_SXM1 / C4130_SXM1, C4140_SXM2 / C4130_SXM2, …
Another SXM2 board is very expensive, but 852X8 is relatively cheap…

Yes, in Poor Man’s Supercomputer post, He is using only half cable an it works, do you think if it works with half for 1st SXM2 board, and another half for 2nd SXM2 board ?

I do not think that would work, the other side is labled as cpdn and the side he used was labled as udpn

I have not tried the 852X8 with c4130, but i know that the octhr works with c4130 and c4140.

I believe it would be better to find a server that has 8x sxm2 instead. Unless you wanted to give that a try

Problem is it’s very rare, do you know which server can support 8x SXM2 ?
There is a lots of 8x GPU server but only with PCIe not SXM2

Do you know to find cheap OCTHR (used or new) ?, below $1000

I know they exist, do you already own a c4130 or c4140.

What gpus are you looking to add to it? V100 or p100, these days if it was p100 it could be cheaper to get p100 pcie and put 4 into a c4130. But if you are looking to put tesla v100 then it makes sense.

Yes, it’s V100

I already own C4130
