Deep Cool Gammexx 400 on AM3+

SO I got this on Amazon for 26 bucks. The hyper 212 is a great choice, maybe even better. For me I wanted something a little different.
8320e on Asrock 970m pro 3.
I will be overclocking over the next couple weeks.
Main thing that was weird was the cooler sits 90 degrees offset from other coolers because the clips are on the sides instead of the front and back.
Also HWmonitor records a lower cpu cooler then the Asrock utility. I will trust the higher reading.
There are cutouts for high profile memory, useless on the AM3+ platform cause of the unusual clip location.
Attaching the clips was a PAIN!
Included are clips to add another fan if needed for more cooling.
Cheap paste is included and that is what I used:)
The AMD stock cooler was just fine for stock speeds and quiet if your hearing is at 50% like mine.
Later time permitting I will post my OC. I will be taking my time since it is a cheap 4+1 board.
One thing to consider when buying a cpu cooler. Heatpipes never wear out. That means that while a top end Noctua may cost more then the CPU everything but the fan may last many years and many builds. I strongly considered this.

I am on an earlier version of AXTU but my experience has been that the temps are spot on in it (K-type thermoprobe tapped to top of heat pipes).
For HW-Monitor: Add 20°C and you get about the same. Not sure why, but that seems to be the thing to do in your head.
My system is an FX-8320 on an ASRock 970 Extreme3 Rev2.0 (clocked at see below, I suppose)

Is it possible to get this cpu to around 4.4ghz OC with aftermarket cooler?

I have heard reports that 4.5 is achievable on a 970 mobo.

I am doing a project soon with similar parts except using an asus motherboard. Would be interested to know the experience people have had with the 8xxx-e processors.

Anandtech got 4.8 on a top end board but at 262 watts
overclock3d got 4.6 out of a MSI 970 gaming MB but that one has 8+1 power.
Mine has 4+1 power so if I get 4.0 I can live with that.

Not on my mobo. I got 4.1 stable but that was really pushing the power delivery.
Would really love to try my CPU on the ASRock 990FX Extreme 9 board...

DeepCool makes some great cooling hardware, but their mounting system is a real pain in the ass and needs some revision. I have the IceEdge 300, already discontinued, and the base plate is slightly offset from the center of the IHS as well, on top of that, removing the damn thing needs a lot of force and control to not break the mounting clip on the motherboard.

One reason I started this thread was the words "pain in the ass" were missing from the reviews. Especially when the MB is already in the case.
Still the direct contact heatpipes plus the pretty blue lights make this a viable option if not the best. I also like that if I want to lap the surface later I can.

Right now I am going blind reading OC guides:)
