DDR3 Registered ram on X58?

Hi there.

So, I am currently running a home server with an ASUS P6T-WS Pro motherboard and an i7 920. I’m planning on hooking up an old Fibre Channel enclosure to it (I already have it, plus HBA and disks) and using ZFS. I’d like ECC ram for this setup, and I know this board can take ECC UDIMMs when equipped with a Xeon CPU. Now, unbuffered ECC DDR3 seems to be really hard to find, and quite expensive, unlike its registered counterpart. Some people seem to have gotten RDIMMs working on their X58 boards, though, but some haven’t. Is there a conclusive answer to this?

TL;DR: Registered DIMMs on an ASUS P6T-WS Pro equipped with a Xeon?

No, they wont work.

Unbuffered only sadly. From the looks of things the P6T-WS Pro is finnicky enough with DRAM that trying to get it running with RDIMMs would be a nightmare, even if it's possible.

Oh well. I guess I'll just upgrade to a newer machine. Thanks for your replies.
