DDR2 ECC Ram cooling (advice please)

Hello all,

been a while since i have been here but always a pleasure. My old workstation is giving me hassles again. Over the summer i cooked 2 RAM sticks cos the office i was in got up to 90F. I have since installed an air conditioner and keep the room at a chilly 68F. Even at these temps my fully populated

mobo (8 stciks of 4GB 667 DDR2 ECC) gets f(*^ing hot. I have bought a new roomier case with more fans but i wanted to know if anyone had/s any experience with cooling DDR2 ECC ram (it's some shitty komputerbay sticks as no where else sells the old ram now). There are basic heatspreaders on the ram and that's it. The rear fan in the existing case does have a scoop extension so the air gets pulled off the ram and exhausted out the back but it stills cooks like nothing else i have.

Maybe a single fan water loop for each xeon chip would help reduce heat in that area? I dunno.

any sensible suggestions very much appreciated

Water cooling is not possible on socket 771 anymore, so I'd maybe get some thermal adhesive and new spreaders. If that doesn't work, try putting 40mm fans on top of the ram. EBay sells fans and spreaders for like $1 a piece. Due to sharing similar sizes, you could try ddr3 spreaders.
