Data Processing Unit for Workstations

Are there any significant benefits locally to having a Nvidia/Mellanox Bluefield-2 dpu in (16 core TR PRO) a workstation?

My Assumption is that since a dpu further offloads encryption/decryption and other virtualization tasks (to what extent, I’m not entirely sure.), that I could potentially see a performance bump.

It looks like a programmable network card. … that can emulate storage or other kinds of interfaces over PCIe, and talks multiple 100Gbps nics on the other side.

Waste of money for a workstation IMHO (unless you also happen to have a small cluster/datacenter sitting around and can stick this card into each server - and basically attach your workstation to the cluster).
