Hey there im looking for a new PC/Daily driver to run for next few years all i need really is 3x Display out 1440@165hz, Remote Desktop, Content consumption, discord chat/calls, gaming.
im currently using an;
i9-10850k @4.4ghz locked stability reasons
64GB DDR4 3100mhz
RTX A5000
What im thinking of buying;
R7 7800X3D
64GB DDR5 6400mhz
RTX A5000
or
i5 13600K
64GB DDR5 6400mhz
RTX A5000
what one of these would last longer do you think? leaning towards the AMD due to chance of maybe more upgrades down the line although higher cost to purchase.
The 7800X3D with a decent board is a much better upgrade in three years, than the 13600k. That said, you won’t be having an all-lane PCIe 5.0 motherboard or a DDR6 platform, that Intel might come out with in the meanwhile.
OTOH, I think it will be a long time before software catches up to these modern architectures, so that makes me lean more towards the 7800X3D right now. However, if upgrades are less of a concern, the 13600k provides the better value.
Mainly just the fact this chip runs hot and i got to cap it in bios for it to run stable and even then its crashing while watching youtube. so thinking of getting new machine
You might just try replacing the thermal paste on the CPU before you run out and replace an otherwise good-enough computer. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a processor getting hot simply due to its age
True, you can break the thermals if you are an OC enthusiast, but I assume the OP is not adventurous enough to do that on his dally driver. So good advice!
