CWWK R9-7940HS needs a couple for reboots to detect NVMes

Does anyone own one of these CWWK boards and can say if they have the same issue?

I’m running one with two Samsung SSDs (an 980 PRO and a 990 PRO) and it’s running fine but it needs to be rebooted a couple of times for the SSDs to be detected by the BIOS.

When they do get detected, it’s always the both them.

Disable fast boot in the UEFI

First thing I did, no change.

no detection from cold boot?

Yes, exactly:

  1. No bootable media screens comes up
  2. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete
  3. Rinse, repeat

fascinating, if you drop into the UEFI, there are no drives populating?

Exactly. I can’t choose them as boot options because they’re simply not there.

is the second drive in a pcie to M.2 adapter?

I only see 1x M.2 slot on that board

I see it list 2 drives, is the second on the back?

Yes, the motherboard has one slot on the front and one on the back. It behaved the same way with one drive in the front though.

I have a 2TB Samsung 990 Pro with heatsink, and have the same issue on my pc. have tried updated firmware on the nvme and tested on both linux and windows and still have this issue with the ssd disconnecting and have power off pc before it gets reconnected again. Seen posts on reddit with people have same issues on these ssd’s. So i dont think this is a issue with your motherboard, but the ssd. I have that motherbord also but with the 7840HS CPU, and i plug the ssd in that motherboard i also get the issue. So in my case its definitely the SSD.
