Custom PC system hangs, lock-ups and freezing

Hi,

I've recently built my own desktop PC but it tends to freeze
around 20 minutes into games (such as MGS V TPP), but strangely running a simnple
NDS emulator will also cause the system to lock up after a little while.
This has also happened while transferring Steam from HDD to SSD (a little over 30GB at the moment).

Here is a list of my hardware.

CPU AMD fx 9590 black edition
DDR3 RAM	(4x 4GB) G.Skill Ripjaws X (F3-12800CL9Q-16GBXL)
GPU msi geforce gtx 970 gaming 4G
Motherboard	msi 970 gaming
HDD 2TB Seagate Desktop HDD (ST2000DM001)
SSD 256GB Crucial MX100
PSU 550W Seasonic S12G
OS Windows 10 x64

What happens during a freeze:

90% of the freezes/hangs will simply lock up the system. Nothing will react
and the NumLk button on my keyboard will also no longer power the NumLk LED.
This happens while doing anything that requires a little more juice. (Playing games with
heavier graphics, but also using something as light as a Nintendo emulator. Hosting a Mincraft
server [wich requires a fair amount of CPU usage] also causes such freezes.)

Rarely, under the sane circumstances, the PC will also freeze for a couple seconds,
then turn off entirely (crash I guess).

Things I've tried: (began with windows 8.1 pro)

  • Check for driver updates
  • Run different benchmarks and a memtest to find potentially faulty hardware
(rather high score in FurMark and no issues detected using others)

  • Check system for corruption and other issues using the command propmt
    (SFC /scannow) (DISM /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth)

  • connected the sata cables to different ports and moved the GPU into another slot

  • wiping the PC and clean-installing windows 10

  • repeating the above in windows 10, in wich the issue wasn't resolved

The rather frustating hangs still persist and I've run out of ideas.
I think that is all I have to say,

I tip my hat to any brave souls who would help me resolve the issue.

Thank you in advance,

Josh

how many HDDs and SSDs do you have??
also, what GPU and what PSU.

did you connect the 4 pin power to the sys b?

does it do it eventually when idling?

Stabbing in the dark ? I would say the motherboard is not designed to support the cpu. http://www.msi.com/support/mb/970-GAMING.html#support-cpu Power issues/vrms overheating stuff of that nature.

judging by that post you just deleted, lol, sounds like a faulty sys B. but it could be the cpu compatability, try a BIOS update.

if you happen to have a spare psu, or know some1 you can borrow from, try that.

so it doesnt hang on idle any more??

I see the FX-9590 is not in the list, also, the list doesn't contail processors running above 3GHz
Would this most likely be this issue?

yas oops, new to this forum..

and yes, it will no longer hang on idle.

it could be, so try and find a bios update, theres no reason that board shouldnt support that chip.

but if that doesnt work, it sounds like a power management issue, which would be system board fault.

SOLVED! the motherboard comes with a warning: it does not support CPU's with a power usage of 200 Watts or above, wich in this case, uses a CPU at 220 Watts.

Thank you very much you two, this made my day! (or past 3 weeks)

ah, oops :)

live and learn is what i always say :D

You need top tier Amd Mobo's for that cpu. Saber/ Crossfire ect....... Note ! Your power supply is also a little on the light side, also. 750 gold seasonic would of been my choice.

Had really bad experience with Seasonic in the past. Might want to switch to a >600 Watts PSU (you are running very close to max load on that Seasonic.)
As it seems, Techy95uk and Freakmacker told you already about the mainboard issue.
