I’m helping to set up a streaming system for my high school’s film/broadcast media program. We already have the streaming system itself planned out, and teachers/students will play the stream via VLC Media Player. However, a lot of them often forget what time the broadcast is, or they forget how to open the stream, or both. I’m wondering if there’s a way we could set up a centralized notification system that displayed a simple banner on the Windows desktop (near the system tray or something, relatively unobtrusive but enough to get their attention) with a clickable link that would run a custom batch script to open the stream in VLC. Ideally, the notifications should work on Windows XP forward.
Any ideas? All these PCs are on the same Active Directory domain, if that makes it any easier. We only have XP, 7, 8, and 10, there are no Vista machines.
