Custom Cases?

Hey hey! I just checked out a video of some pretty BA custom Computers made by Nvidia for Deadmau5. I was wondering if any one here has done somthing super custom like this before and what the Process was like for you

I consider this more in the way of cheating. For me custom cases are what you do yourself or use local places if you can't do the specialized stuff yourself.

Also most people think it's a 2 week process. Suuuuurree if you add it all up. The reality is your are building for several weeks and mostly months before you would call it finished.

I build my custom server in the span of 1,5 years especially just getting the preparation and designing like you actually want it will eat up most time. Once you have done that decently building it is done pretty fast.

Oh dude, building my case is an experience. I'll give you the short version.

My original case was an ancient XION case with the psu hanging out at the top making out with the cpu heat. A design that i found asinine.

First i had to figure out what parts i was going to buy, i looked up their dimensions before buying the parts and then started with the ruler, pencil and paper design stage.

parts arrived but i still hadn't come up with a design I really liked so i just mounted them in the XION case and kept on penciling away.

then i came up on a design i liked and prototyped it in cardboard and constantly checked and rechecked things like the drive cage placement, fan mounting points etc.

i knew i wanted the psu as separated as possible for heat reasons so i had to design a secluded basement that also allowed easy cable routing.

Then i had to test fit my hardware into the cardboard prototype and make sure i wasn't overlooking anything and once that was done i had to build the working skeleton of my case.

Built risers and runners out of ground coffee tins and connected them with self-tapping sheet metal screws.

My sound system had recently died so i repurposed the plastic shell from that by cutting it down and made the walls.

The hardest part was cutting out the motherbaord tray from the XION case and making sure it laid flat and didn't have a motherboard destroying bend to it. Then i decided to reuse the power button assembly and usb port section.

It's still rough and i have excess bits to trim here and there and i still have to fabricate some parts, sand and paint the whole thing but it's pretty solid and can support a bit of weight placed on top of it. I was able to fit some acrylic windows to the sides as well. The only thing keeping me from continuing is i need a rotary tool to do the more fine detailed cutting and shaping but I'm perpetually broke. I was only able to get new computer parts cuz my bro and sis gave me money when my 2in1 essentially bricked after windows 10 lost an entire drive partition during an update.

So that's pretty much what went into my process. Design took about 2 months I'd say. The actual building part took about 3 weeks. It would have taken less time to build but i have health stuff so yeah.
