I have gotten some yeelight lamps and other smart devices to have a little automation in my life.
I really hate Google. I also do not agree to share any data with Amazon. So I’m currently using Bixby.
I would want to have more features, like turn on pc or do that thing on the pc or control the audio from device to device.
But the lacking of features in Bixby is astounding.
I thought about connecting Bixby and Cortana but couldn’t find anything there. Also no windows integration for Bixby.
For a long while I also thought about setting up my own AI with a voice of choice. And have that run my place but I never got to set my mind to actually figure it out.
I heard that there are open source AIs.
I also have basically all small iot devices that would be good to have. Arduinos and home computer.
I haven’t delved into this area too much, but it sounds like Mycroft AI would be a good fit. It’s open source and allows you to program custom actions using python.
If you have any old “supported” Windows IoT boards laying around there have been some who’ve tied Mycroft AI to use a Windows IoT device to do Cortana specific stuff. Keep in mind its unknown how long Microsoft’s roadmap on IoT, the Raspberry Pi 3(non plus) was the cheapest board–the other Win IoT board options are pricey.
I have an old J celeron m-itx board, maybe that works?
I’m pretty familiar with python, so this is interesting.
I’m also looking to implement some kind of home tablet or wall mounted screen. Also kind of AI Tony Stark has, can talk to whenever, but that is probably more Q# and datacenter sized machine learning stuff. Basic smart home integration for
Custom AI/Home assistant
Home datacenter implementation for computing
Roon hifi
Yeelights
Audiocast
Sonoff
Cortana
Bixby

Network monitoring
Qingping
VR, “ISAC, launch VR”
Raspberry pi cam
Image recognition
Windows IoT OS was for single board computers like a Raspberry Pi 3 at the time period. If that motherboard has a Windows 10 license you could do some kind of python routing script to pass through Mycroft AI to Cortana.
I haven’t used Cortana since the early days of Win10 pre-API scripting but the results were solid for most common tasks.
I remembered this announcement from Home Assistant folks:
but, I have not tried it, I’m using Home Assistant controlled from Google Assistant/via my own personal Google Home integration since before this was available.
I watched a video by upisnotdown on elite dangerous how he setup basically a voice command system with Voiceattack. I like it.
While setting it up I noticed that there is already a voice recognition system in Windows. And I discovered that it is way better than Cortana at doing things.
But anyways I setup voiceattack and now it replies with text to speech to me when I talk to her. I call her Holiday.
Now I’m looking to either make a custome voice pack for Windows and have some fiverr voice actor to do the voices or then find a text to speech package that can be installed on Windows because sorry to say but Hazel is preety underwhelming.
