CS:GO on Linux?

Anyone playing this on Linux? Looking for some feedback. Trying to make a final decision on whether or not to run a Windows guest on the new build.

Thanks for the feedback

It works, but I don't know how well, haven't played in quite some time, I can test it out tonight if no one else replies. What kind of performance would you require? playable, or competitive playable?

I'm coming from the COD series on an old Xbox 360. I know I'm not anywhere good enough to get paid to play games lol, so playable where you could enjoy it. Not sure how else to explain it, or if you could just see what's the highest gaming experience you could get?

Thanks for the help.

I have no direct experience but I can leave a couple of links:

(i7 4790k and gtx 980)

From my experience Cs:Go seems to be a bit harder to run within linux. Keep in mind that graphics drivers can be a pain in linux. In general I saw around a 30 frame drop which for me meant nothing seeing as I limit the frames at 300. But when the limiter is off, frames were a but jumpy. Might be tough if you are running integrated graphics or a lower end laptop IC. For desktops though, a 760 is more the enough. Dual boot is always an option. Or set up linux first seeing as it is free and try it out, if you decide against it, switch.

@Spidernet Thanks for those videos, looks like no issues on Linux. I will have to research it with AMD cards.

You can play it no problem, i have i5 and gtx750ti and I am getting well over the 150 fps at 1080p on mostly low settings.
I'm looking for over 144 so if/when I get a fast refresh monitor I can get full advantage.

I keep seeing a recurring theme that for Linux you don't need as strong of a GPU? Is this just in general, or does this apply to gaming as well?

a lot of people run linux because it runs well on less hardware, so it will be a recurring theme that not everyone has a i7 and a 980. You still need a good gpu to run games just as you do on windows.

Thanks for the info.

I would love a better GPU but I can't bring myself to spend over £200 on one when I get good enough for £120.
Or it could be that I'm a tight Scotsman:-)

GTX 960 and i5-4460 nvidia-355.06 1280x1024 Medium settings except shaders low and x16 250-300fps facing smoke fps goes from pretty stable 300 to 280. No random lags or disconnecting. Works just fine.

Thanks for the feedback, this might be enough to sway me to just run linux. As long as I can get my fix on something like this won't care about COD anymore.....

i7 4790k, Gtx 980, Driver: 355.06
everything on max @ 1080p around 270-300 fps feels very smooth.

It runs fine on a 4690k and a 970. There's no difference for me.
