I have heard quite often that the price of R9 290's and R9 290X's cards is going through the roof in the US and that these cards are also more expensive in the EU than they should be. Has anyone of you an idea if the prices in the EU are still higher than normal? I missed the launch of the series because I was spending a few months abroad (camping, ... far away from tech issues) and now I am looking to buy a Sapphire R9 290 Tri-X OC. I found one for 387€ (=577US $) and would like to know if you think the price is reasonable.
If there any other R9 290 cards you can recommend I would be happy to hear your suggestions ;-)
I think the Sapphire r9 290 is the best, but the Asus shouldn't be bad, too. Should be similar priced. And I don't think that prices will fall until Nvidia brings something new, what should take a while...
The R9 290X is very expensive here in Germany as well. The 577 US$ are for the R9 290 non-X. As it seems I will not be able to get it any cheaper si I will go eith that one. Tha Asus DirectCU II is always a good chunk more pricey than the other custom coolers, isn't it?
Sorry, been seeing several reviews of the 290X,so my brain automatically added in the X. Hmm,That seems on par with USA prices,i think. How are nvidia prices there?Might as well look at nvidia if prices are comparable.
You are right, the DCII always cost more for the added performance in cooling.
The GTX780, which is equivalent to the R9 290, is at approx 410€ and hence 30€ more expensive than the AMD card. Moreover I am not very keen on buying Nvidia because I don't like their way of making everything proprietary. I also want to learn openCL in the coming months and Nvidia has a much lower openCL performance :-)
