Hey teks,
I'm planning to get a SSD (Around 30GB) and install windows 7 on it, only windows 7. I was looking around in the shop and I saw this Crucial V4 SSD for around 45 bucks. Is it worth it? Or schould I go for a OCZ? or mabye even an other brand. My price range is around 50 bucks but if the Crucial is crap and all the other stuff for 50 aswell, I will raise my budget!
Can you help me?
Crucial, Samsung, and Intel have a strong lineup of SSDs that are reliable. I would advise at least a 64GB SSD be it a Crucial M4, Samsung 830, or Intel 520.
Personally, I'd avoid the V4 series. The Phision controller in it is slow as molasis, despite using high quality nand flash. In terms of performance, it's handily beaten by it's competitors. Also, 32GB isn't enough for Windows unless you really know what you're doing. I personally have Windows on a 40GB partition and it gets a little difficult to manage. On my machine, I only have 10GB free space on a 40GB partition.
If the budget is really that tight, I'd opt for a Mushkin Enhanced Castillo. It's a 40GB SSD, for about $55 bucks

But if there is a little flex, I'd strongely urge for a 60GB SSD. Most anything from OCz (you may need firmware updates, especially on their older drives), Corsair, Intel are solid. I have SSDs from Crucial (M4), Corsiar (Force F60A), and OCz (Agility III w/ updated firmware) and haven't had much issue. The only issue I've had is with the Agility III, which was corrected with updated firmware. A-Data Premier Pri or Crucial M4 looks promising
