Crossfire 7870 vs 7950/7970 & RAM

Hey guys!

Just new to this place and I need a little help.

Have been debating a couple of parts to upgrade.... so I am upgrading my current rig and the below parts are what I am going for:

Mobo: ASUS CrosshairV Formula-Z

CPU: AMD FX 8350

CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i

Case Mod: BitFenix Colossus Window (will be getting fans to mount on this accordingly)

RAM: Corsair Vengeance Pro CMY16GX3M2A1866C9R 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 (or possibly Corsair Vengeance Pro CMY16GX3M2A2133C11R 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 for CPU overclocking purposes)

PSU: Corsair HX850

....and last but not least the GPU conundrum!

I am currently running an ASUS HD7870 Direct CUII (core clock 1010/4840mhz). So I am debating getting another one of these to run Crossfire or a 7950/7970 setup instead and of course the choice of RAM.

Thanks in advance everyone!

and I just realised that this is an old forum, so if a mod could possibly please move this to the correct forum topic, it would be highly appreciated!

From personal exsperience i wouldnt bother with SLi/Crossfire, i found the performance gain nice but the cost of having to power the cards and continually sort drivers and settings out just annoying.

Single powerful cards these days seem to do a perfectly fine job and require minimal setup and maintenance.

So id choose a single powerful card and some RAM, each to their own tho :)

you do have a point, that would annoy the hell out of me!

also the way I see it right now, if I upgrade now, which I will be, I may have to delay upgrading the GPU, if I wanted to upgrade to a 7970 due to limited funds, otherwise a 7950 would probably be feasible at this point.

Would there be many advantages going for a 7970 over a 7950??

and thanks for the help there! :)

Thats a pretty detailed comparison of the two cards (head to head), id reccomend scouting around other reviews and having a look. Its easy for me to say xxxx is better but they both have pros and cons etc and its your money at the end of the day :D

From that review tho it looks like the top end card is about 10-15% faster at stock speeds but you could buy a factory clocked 7950 that performs almost as good at the 7970 :D

7950 it is! thanks again for the help Namix! very much appreciated :)
