I am in the process of building my desktop rig, having been set back several hundred dollars from buying some lego models, loaning family money, and having to pay for food. Anyway I now only have $800-900 to build my pc from. I already have a 6970 and this is what I am thinking about so far, http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1gad9
post any suggestions, thoughts opinions, and parts you think are better. Any feedback is greatly appreciated thanks.
You probably don't need 1866Mhz memory, 1600 should be fine, also no need for a dvd drive, you can install Windows from a USB, unless you really need it for some old games or something.
Well i dont know but there might be a chance the 6970 will bottleneck the FX and if that is right then get a pirated os because the original is soo overpriced and skip on the SSD and you might get another 6970 so it woldnt bottleneck and that PSu is sufficient enough!
P.S. If the RAM is 1333mhz get a corsair vengeance or something...
FX-8350 can handle 6970 with no problem, i've got 2 x 6950 flashed to 6970 specs in corssfire and i get no problem, performance scaled properly with a margin of 2%. Nothing that really bottlenecks.
I hope you have another HDD because your SSD will fill up pretty easily; at least 300gb. The board is great, i've got the same CPU/Mobo, can't complain about the quality Gigabyte puts on their boards, UD3 is the gold standard for AM3+ mobo.
I really like the thermaltake coolers, they put a lot of time on making Quiet and efficient airflow. Nic has a smart design with the heatsink casing to force air through without it going out into the sides. Great build, just make sure to get some good fans for the case, something like bitfenix, xigmatek, or even noctua. That would be my other thing. I'm a bit obsessed with good airflow on my case..lol.
