Hi, I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts or ideas on how to create a Jarvis-like computer or app? It could be an android or apple device. I could link it to an arduino that took data on body vitals, indoor or outdoor climate, etc and used it to control certain things in the house like lighting, heating, cooling, garage doors, etc. It could integrate into the web to answer all sorts of questions, send texts, call people, and other assistant activities (like Siri, Skyvi, Vlango, Maluuba, etc). It would have to integrate into other computers and devices though. I was thinking a Raspberry pi would be a cheap way to integrate a small computer that could be worn that would possibly have a camera, mic, display, touchscreen, and/or a projector. I don't have a whole lot of tech knowledge. I know that most of these things are possible individually, but to bring them into one system probably isn't possible. Thoughts? Thanks
Hmm, I'm wondering if this can be posted on the forums? You may get some more help over there. But it's good to hear though that an Arduino board can now be made into lots of different stuff. But anyway, I've created a thread dedicated to the Arduino projects discussion. Over here: http://teksyndicate.com/forum/gadgets/arduino-thread/137696
I think the biggest hurdle with this would be the language barriers. And taking into account slang, jargon or words that are more nebulous and don't have an immediate understandable meaning. And having it fetch the correct data and respond accordingly. A really good example of this is the episode of Jeopardy when they made IBM's Watson AI play Jeopardy.
Sounds like home automation to me. Though perhaps a bit smarter. There are already lots of companies doing home automation... extending and augmenting such systems could work, but they are kind of expensive I think.
thanks for all the input guys. I'm new to the forum so I don't know how to add this conversation to a forum or how to get wendell to see it. Have you guys looked at some of the apps like Siri, Skyvi, Vlango, or Maluuba? Or some websites like Evi (http://developer.evi.com/) or Wolfram (http://www.thoughtgadgets.com/2009/05/wolframalphas-ai-experiment.html). It might be possible to translate slang locally based on your own vocab to questions and commands that these programs or databases could understand. When I first posted this idea I wasn't imagining that it would work for everyone, but instead be a personal project since we all have different vocab, homes to automate, and other automation projects. For example, I am an organic/sustainable vegetable farmer and I would like my Jarvis system to integrate with my daily farm activities, which would be a much differenct Jarvis system than a lawyer, doctor, programmer, etc.
