Crazy stupid watercooling idea

so my idea would to use the vapor chamber that comes with the reference 290 card as it is very efficient at removing heat but the support thermal material (the aluminum fin stack) is not adequate. so what i plan to do is cut away a portion of the shroud so i can install one of the waterblocks from my corsair h60 aio watercooler on top of that finstack to soak up the excess heat.

then use my 2 left over corsair h55 aio coolers on a Peltier plate, maybe say 250watts worth to cool the other two rads in a cool, hot, hottest config.

cold side of the peltier being the first cool rad

hot being the gpu's rad

and hottest being the hot side of the peltier rad

what do you guys think?

I like it. Sounds like a fun personal project. Make sure you take pictures of shit as you work on it.

Yup, thats crazy. A Kraken g 10 and some good vrm heatsinks is alot cheaper. You should do it anyway and tell us about it.

I second this.

I'll second this one too.

Personaly I find the kraken to be poop , especially with H55's .

Yeah pics :D

And would be interesting .

peltier is a bad idea.

Heres the problem, a radaitor can only displace so much heat with the flowrate of these pumps the peltier wont chill the air enough to make a large enough difference. If you really want to go crazy get a 150w or 175 w peltier , affix the cold side to your gpu and hot the h60. use foam to insulate the hot waterbloack from gpu. You will be able to get down to -20c on the die. You will need insulation to battle condensation and proper power.

see theres a common misconception with peltiers is that they moove heat which is not true. one side simply heats up and one gets cold.

plus the aluminum fins are going to get in your way if you mounted atop them. youll see cooler temps mounting to the die with no aluminum stack.

yeah  ...  so ?

anarkist has gone crazy again .. lol

Here is a pretty cool take on a Peltier setup.

Crazy stupid indeed. You are better of getting the Kraken G10 GPU bracket and mounting the water cooler to the card. And don't even bother with the TEC.

Not sure where you got that info from. But TEC or Peltier coolers are solid state heat pumps and do move heat.

+1 ... that is crazy ... would like to see how good it does.

Remember, use a 420mm radiator.

I think some of you are confused as to the physics of this working.

Step 1. Peltiers cool side cools Rad 1's water, cooling the fins, creating cold air around them.

Step 2, that cold air goes over the 2nd rad, cooling the GPU a bit better than it would by itself

Step 3, the third rad takes care of the hot side of the Peltier, dissipating the heat.

I want to see this happen.

It is just a bracket. Knocking 30 degrees off my load temps on my gpu, left me pretty happy. It's a little pricey for just a cheap fan and a bracket but i would hardly call it poop.:)~
