Cpu/motherboard issue

so, I can't start my pc due to either my motherbpard or my cpu not workiong.. problem is i can't tell wich one of them it is :/ anyone knows of a way to anlalyse the issue without the use of a secondary pc?

here's the MoBo/PSU/CPU

MoBo: GIGABYTE 990FXA-UD5

PSU: OCZ Z5 series 550W

CPU: AMD 9850FX

*snip"

EDIT: its actually a 8350FX chip, :)

Have you tried the usual stuff? run on barebones (1 stick of RAM etc), breadboarded the mobo (removed it from the case and run it) along with reseating and reconnecting all the connections.

I am not shure AM2+ cpu's work on the UD5 mobo (gessing you have this cpu? http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+Phenom+9850+Quad-Core)

I dont see it listed on gigabyte's cpu list http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/cpu-support-popup.aspx?pid=3891

The problem is that cpu is old and only support DDR2-1066 no DDR3 support so you need a mobo that has ddr2 slots that supports AM2+

Run through these checks, its for new builds but the check still works for problem solving.
