CPU i74790K Heat Issue?

Hello Forum! You've helped me out a bunch in the past but I appear to have another query so any advice would be much appreciated!

The Problem

So I'm running an i74790K and temps seem to be a little high, they hover idle around 33C but the moment any stress is put on the CPU they tend to jump quite a lot, for example...

1) Playing Endless Legend Game, Temps jumped to 80c at one point maybe when loading.

2) Using Sculptris, Usage hits 95% and temps hit around 75c

To me this seems a little high, I mean I don't even think sculptris should be hitting 95% usage. (Only hits this when sculpting, not when idle, temps and usage drop quickly as soon as I stop sculpting)

The issue may have arisen from me misplacing the  cooling block when installing my h100i but I'm not sure, if so I guess I should remount it with fresh thermal paste? Any brands that are really good?

Also on start up one of the H100i fans makes a loud rattling sound but stops after a few seconds and doesn't persist for the rest of the time the PC is running, loose fan?

I'm using Task Manager to measure CPU usage and CPUID Hardware Monitor to measure temperatures.

Any advice and guidance would be much appreciated! Thank you.

It may be that the pump has stop working. That seems to be a issue with all in one water coolers where the pump is built into the water block. Or the Pump is running very slowly because of the CPU fan profile in the bios is set to slow. If the pump is working correctly then you may just have a defective H100i and it may have air in the lines.

Or possibly the pump has an air bubble  ... try laying the PC on it's side for 20 minutes or so. And see if that helps.

whats your core voltage at under load?

See how you can go with under-volting your cpu. You'll shave lots of degrees off. Everyone should do this anyway imho. Offset mode is fine if you're not overclocking, otherwise use manual settings and test. Haswell chips can oc quite well without bumps in voltage hence my recommendation for under-volting. The closer you get to 1.00v the better.

Check that the block is mounted to the cpu properly. Replacement TIM if needed ~ mx4, noctua, etc. All are pretty much the same at the end of the day.

Rattling -will just be a stuck air bubble. Move your case around - tile from side to side, front to back etc. It will eventually work its way out.

Ah I see, Well I'll try the laying it on its side trick and see if I get any results, thanks for the feedback.

Cheers, I'll check this technique out!

I'll look into repositions the block, thanks for the brand guidance.

As for the rattling, it stops when I unplug one of the fans, so it doesn't seem like an air bubble, I know exactly which fan is causing the sound.
