(SORRY IN ADVANCE IF THERE IS ALREADY A POST REGARDING SAME TOPIC!!!)
Hey everyone!
I've been planning to upgrade piece by piece my current pc, as what the title says, for those reasons, and possibly streaming if possible, I am willing to spend a certain amount of money, but NO i7-4930k nor the i7-4960X extreme edition nor nothing similar in that price range, IF I REALLY HAD TO PUSH MY BUDGET TO THE LIMIT, IT WOULD BE ~350£ (Oh PS: i'm in Britland) Anyways, browsing around the teks videos, I've had my eye on a couple of the CPU they use on their rigs which were the AMD FX-9590 and Intel Xeon 1230 V3. Which would be more recommendable or if there are better options out there I would like to know because I feel like looking for a needle in a haystack right now. And a mobo that would go really well with said CPU..?
Well my current build is actually my first build, but like I said I would like to upgrade part by part. I was planning to start my upgrade from the CPU+mobo and move to the rest later on...
CPU: AMD FX 6300 (Upgrade to =?) MOBO: Asus M5A97 R2.0 (Upgrade to =?) GPU: Asus R9280x DC2T 3GD5 (Upgrade to R9290x or GTX 780) RAM: Kingston Hyper X Beast 8GB (Upgrade to 32GB, same brand probably) HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB (Going to add 256GB SSD for OS and primary programs & games, and 2TB HDD) PSU: Corsair CX600M (800W?)
No don't get a 9590. It is just a factory OCed 8350. That being said the 8350 is a great part for gaming, streaming and productivity. That teamed with a good motherboard, like an Asus M5A99FX, is a powerhouse and can really OC well.
If you want to go Intel you can't go wrong with the Xeon 1230V3. It can't be overclocked but even so it has a fairly high turbo speed which, at least for me, it hits and stays at consistently. It is also much cheaper than an i7-4770 while being essentially the same thing. I have one in an mITX rig I built. Damn thing kicks ass in both gaming, streaming and video editing.
TBH, doesn't matter in terms of which brand, I'm really looking for the performance, but yeah if I were to choose AMD, I was thinking the M5A99FX PRO R2, the Sabertooth 990fx r2 or the Asrock 970 Extreme4, for future purchase. and in the other hand intel, haven't really invested time yet. but thanks on tip, I might wait a bit more and do a little bit of homework, since these are going to be my first upgrades to my rig, but if I had to choose right now, it would be the AMD cpu you recommended with one of the said mobos, but I'm kind curious about the Intel Xeon aswell, so right now it's east or west for me!
If you use a program that can utilize Intel's somewhat new Quick Sync, Intel becomes a compelling option. I was playing around with OBS and Quicksync yesterday, and my i5-3570k worked suprisingly well with it. CPU usage barely went up(maybe 5-10%), and when I hit record, I don't get the slight stutter and frame drops that I usually get with x264 encoding. However, I'm only recording and saving the file locally. I haven't done streaming, yet.
I do think you need integrated graphics, though, for this feature. You'd have to get an i7(or i5), as the Xeon has no integrated graphics.
if you choose AMD FX8350 Which is a very decent choice for streaming, then go with one of the decent Asus boards. like the Asus M5A99Fx pro R2.0 or Sabertooth.
The Asrock 970 extreme 4 is rubbish!
About the gpu, since you life in the UK, i would recommend a Radeon card, cause they are alot cheaper, then theire direct Nvidia competition. i would say grab a R9-290. Like the Asus R9-290 Direct CU2 OC. the 290 also performs better then a GTX780, in most gaming benchmarks that ive saw.
Unless you oc the 8350 to 4.5+ the 1230v3 would have stronger performance in just about every area. However, being that you already have a heck ton of amd hardware, your best option would be just to get the 8350 and call it a day. Use as much existing hardware as you can to save yourself money and headaches.
That Asus board will be able to overclock the 8350 just fine. I would not upgrade it unless you are set on running sli in the future, which the 970 chipset does not support.
I'd highly recommend getting an All-In-One (aio) water cooler such as h80/h100/h110 or a large air cooler such as the nh-d14/15 no matter which direction you go, silence is golden.
For psu the 800w is decent enough to give some good breathing room, even if you have the 8350 oc'd and dual 290s in cf.
For gpu's, I thumbs up MisteryAngel. You can get dual 290s for the price of a 780ti and they will run circles around it. Not to mention, OpenCL rendering = yay.
For the leftover existing hardware either sell it or keep it, get a couple more necessary parts, and build yourself a kick-ass home theater box.
For games it would be the current ones that are out and to be released, such as BF4, Borderlands 2, Metro: Last Light (even though I couldn't play it yet, since my gpu somehow can't handle it even in low.), Titanfall, Diablo 3, TES5: Skyrim, Watchdogs, Wolfenstein, EDIT: Almost forgot about Star Citizen!
And Editing programs I've got Sony Vegas 12, Adobe Premiere cs6, Photoshop cs6 & After Effects cs6
and finally capturing I have Audacity, Bandicam(but looking into buying a capture card, not sure if it's a good idea though, and if it is, which to get), OBS (still learning how to optimize it and t properly since I just recently started using it)
well looking into it, since my build looks like a fanboy build, I could save money and get me an 8350 and later on upgrade my mobo to the M5A99fx pro R2.0, well I might be wrong in this but I think it's a better choice (Please correct me if I'm wrong) and yeah for the GPU, I've been doing some homework last night, and yeah the r9-290 has my attention, but yeah you're right, Nvidia is proud putting on price tags on their products here in the uk, when I check in U.S websites and others, the pricing is sometimes jawdropping for me, lol!
I won't be OC'ing the 8350 UNTIL I get my hands on the mobo( which after doing some homework, I'd go for the M5A99fx Pro R2.0) and for the CSU, here's what I have in mind, H100i OR a Kraken x60 and smack in some Noctua fans(love dem silence) or Phanteks fans(homework needed on them). On the other hand, I was thinking, the Noctua NH-d15 or the PH-TC14PE from Phanteks, (my head is just a mess) And In terms of space I don't think it would be an issue since I have a Define R4 case (or atleast I think it won't be...)
And for gpu's, same here with your opinion, dual 290s (was checking out the Asus R9-290 DC2OC-4GD5) and it seems like the best option for me. I was looking into nvidia because, as like you said, a heck ton of AMD hardware, but price to performance, AMD nails my needs(atleast for now)
[PS: My current CSU is just a 212 evo from CM, didn't mention than in previous post]
So yeah, my upgrading process would be, CPU>MOBO>CSU+OC>GPU 1>PSU>GPU 2>RAM
I'm really excited to start with the upgrade, not in a rush, gonna be watching the prices, and when some prices drop, me swoop in.. buy... smack to pc... midget happy!
and to end the upgrade, buy the windowed side panel for the case :D!!
