Hey I was just curious as to what Cpu Fan I should get for my new computer.
The specs are
Gtx 280
Nvidia 780i
Q6600
4gb corsair dominator
900w ocz ModXstream PSU
I was thinking about getting the Ultra Chilltec
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/searchtools/item-Details.asp?EdpNo=2353734&sku=ULT33186&srkey=chilltec
But tiger direct being stupid raised the price by $67
not even two weeks ago it was up for $99 then it went to $140 then $120 and now $167??
Anyways my price range is anywhere up to $140 which is a lot for a cpu fan,
I was thinking about getting a cheap water cooling kit like the thermaltake one, but im not sure.
Anyone have any opinions as to what I can get?
I want to get something that can allow me to OC like a beast.
Thanks for the help! :)
the zero therm nirvana nuff said and why such a low end cpu with all those high end parts? go with a q9550
that cooler you choose is very extreme though but i see it as unneeded and whay too big and ugly its an excuse for liquid cooling just liquid cool now thats a lot cooler (no pun intended)
The Q6600 I wouldn't consider a low end cpu.
It's cheap for it's price and overclocks very well compared to most processors.
The Chilltec isn't that big of a cpu fan?
I was actually thinking about getting the
Thermalright Ultra 120 extreme black edition.
I think that's the fan I might get.
i know the q6600 isnt a low end but its the lowest end quad core and it does over clock nicely as i have heard
Pretty much any of the really well rated CPU coolors are worth getting. Depends on your tastes.
Rice what would you suggest?
I'm thinking of either getting the Tuniq Tower 120 Or the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme.
But the Thermalright Can have two fans attached to it, I was just curious as to what 120mm fans should be attached to it.
I know the S-Flex Scythe is the one that everyone says to use.
But where would the two fans plug into?
And are their any led fans that glow that would have enough Rpm to be put on the thermalright?
Ahhh im soo confused!!!

I'd recommend the Ultra 120 Extreme too, or you see if you can find the all copper edition, but that really isnt too safe cause its like 2kg
where the 2 fans plug into is easy. one in the motherboard, one to your power supply via molex.
q6600 is a very high end cpu in my opinion, because people can overclock it to 3.0ghz in a snap.
even if the thermaltake is a low end watercooling system, i would get that. im not positive about it, but i know that 3dgameman has said that even low end watercooling beats the highest end air cooling.
but if you do aircool... i dont know. zalman makes good stuff too. the tuniq tower looks really sexy.
I would go for Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme with Scythe S-Flex

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=Scythe+S-Flex&x=21&y=33
or
If you are going to spend for a little bit more Swiftech
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835108105
actually 3dgameman did a review on that swiftec watercooling system, he said it was great
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDkqTcFWu8A
edit: actually he reviewed this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835108100&Tpk=swiftech%20h20-120
which is the same thing but not dual radiator. so either way, you should be good. the 120 is cheaper anyways
@ George
Swiftech and Danger Den are my favorites
Alright well that just confuses me even more lol.
I found it at this site for only $100 which is really cheap.
http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=14480AC3346&vpn=H20-120-COMPACT&manufacture=SWIFTECH
I have $140 on my paypal.
So if I dont get the water cooling I could get the Thermalright Ultra 120 extreme
Two S-Flex Scythe Fans and this 5.25 fan control bay.
http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=14110AC4040&vpn=KM01-BK&manufacture=SCYTHE
Which do you think is the better buy?
and which would keep my cpu cooler and be more stress free lol.
I'd really like to put my order out before the end of the day.
Would I be able to OC better with that water cooling kit?
I was always told cheap watercooling kits are a huge waste and dangerous.

The Ultra 120 is one of the best air coolers, as for the swiftech it aint that great, but it will cool a bit better than the 120. But remeber the dangers of water cooling such as leaks, n sometimes comiplcated to set up.
if you dont want a hassle or are afraid of watercooling, do the air cooling. it will still let you have a nice good overclock. but i think the liquid would cool better, its still more risky, your right.
Air cooling is good enough I think for the q6600, just be sure to get a bigger heatsink to dissipate the heat made by the quad core
Right well I think I might just take it easy and get the Thermalright Ultra 120
It looks pretty nice.
What rpm of fans should I get for them?
Im going to buy that fan controller and I know everyone recommends the S-Flex Scythe fans But they come in 800 all the way to 2500 rpm fans. Which one should I get?
Also are their any 120mm fans that have LED lights just so that it looks a bit nicer hehe.
@ 21DD23
That Thermalright 120 is not exactly air cooler. It is a heatsink. You still need to buy a fan for it.
Thermalright, they tested it to a dual core CPU. Dual core CPUs run cooler than Quads.
Well, Admanthemadman has a Q6600, which is Quad, so Swiftech will do a better job than Thermalright 120.
Thermalright is very heavy and it may **** your mobo.
@ George
That is why you have to check your WC if it has leaks. You have to let it run for a few hours before you install it.
Yes, you are right. it cools better than HS/F, but risky.
@ Admanthemadman
If you really want to cool the living **** out of your system. Build yourself a custom water cooling

what's your budget? zerotherm is $50, does VERY nice for $50.
the TRUE is $70, black edition is another $10+ i think at xoxide (i really like the black edition)
or if you want like the best for air cooling, get the ultra chilltec, that's like $140.
it just depends on your budget and how much you want to overclock. i'm very very happy and content with my zerotherm nirvana in looks and performance.
I would tell you to get water cooling because I have a riceer computer.
It's pretty much for looks and brag rights, but it is insanely efficient.
Also, I'm using a Thermaltake 760i desu.
"and why such a low end cpu with all those high end parts? go with a q9550"
the STUPIDEST remark i have heard all month
