Cpu bottlenecking my gpu?

hello everyone

I was wondering if my cpu would be bottlenecking my gpu in games or not.
since I replaced my old gpu usage on the cpu increased by 20% minimal.

my hardware:

CPU: intel i7-3820 3,7Ghz
GPU: 980TI gigabyte windforce extreme edition
RAM: G-Skill Quad kit: 16G
Motherboard: asus rampage iv formula
PSU: 860W platinum

edit: example of a game would be black desert online

Probably not? (?????) Depends on the game really. For Black Desert or something with big open cities (think DayZ) the game will lag a bit with the overpopulated areas. Your chip isn't unuseable, but an upgrade soon might be ideal. Apparently AM4 performs better than Broadwell-E, so AMD might be an option.

I don´t think so.
You might want to upgrade your CPU in Q4 16 or Q1 17.

thank you guys. this helps and I am planning to upgrade but I have to save up for a bit before I can afford to. (buying gpu took me over a year to save for haha)

Let´s save together then.

not sure what that means lol

Just said that to tell you: You are not the only one saving for an upgrade.

ah makes sense. goodluck!:D

what are your FPS for the game? Here's one for reference: http://black-desert.com/forums/index.php/Thread/9714-Black-Desert-GPU-and-CPU-tests-Check-your-FPS/

Great discipline! Good to hear you're not weak minded and slapping down a credit card while paying interest on your balance every month, but rather saving and paying less overall. Wish I could see more of my friends do the same, maybe my friends and I could go out to dinner and movies and pro sports games together more often instead of me hearing "oh no we have too much debt to go out right now" bla bla bla. Wish my friends were more like you.

No its fine

I get the same 60 fps. if I remove the vsync it goes about 70ish.
the only drop I see right now early in the game is when I reach a city it drops to about 30-40.

Your credit does exactly nothing for you if you don't put it to work. Using credit is the only way to build credit.

while i dont think you are bottle necking, im just wondering why you bought a ROG board, 980ti, and 16gb ram for a 3rd gen i7? considering 4th gen i7's where made around 7 series cards.. esp when there is a 1ghz difference.

ive had the computer for a couple of years already. I just upgrade the gpu from hd7870 to the 980ti.

edit: around mid 2013 to be exact

  1. AM4 doesn't even exist yet... better yet benchmarks for it...
  2. His processor is fine... for gaming I doubt anything above an i5-2500k would significantly bottleneck any single GPU on a reasonably well-coded game +/- 4FPS

Verdict: Your CPU is fine... do not "save up for a year" to replace it... updating your CPU for minimal gaming gains every 2-3 years will leave you broke for 4 FPS

Theres a post about rumored hardware leaks and early tests.

Would you honestly recommend a kid that's going to be "saving up" for God knows how long look to buying a Zen CPU over a "rumored hardware leaks and early tests" post? Knowing full well his CPU is obviously not bottle necking his system to any degree that doesn't drop him below the nominal 60 fps frame his monitor has?

OP asked if his CPU is bottlenecking his system...the answer is very slightly...

Yeah there will be a slight bottleneck in certain cpu demending games especialy at lower res like 1080p.
But it wont get anywhere near unplayable.
if you trow an overclock at your 3820, then you will likely be fine.
Its not realy worth to upgrade yet i think.

I would rather look at the second hand market, if you can ditch on a used 4930K for cheap or so.
Or just leave your system as it is right now, and wait for Skylake-E, or ZEN.
There is still more then enough life in your current system for that matter.

No.

Let me make clear,

No.
