I think that my cpu is bottlenecking my gfx card, and if it is im going to buy new cpu. Well im gona buy a new one anyway :P, but i need help on which one i should buy.
My specs Motherboard: Asus M3A (socket AM2+) Cpu: AMD athlon 64 X2 4400+ 2.3 ghz (brisbane) 65nm...stock clocks gfx card: Asus EN8800gt stock clocks (engine 600mhz, memory 1800mhz, shader 1500mhz) memory: 4gb of ddr2 Os: Windows 7 build 7100
Is my cpu bottlenecking my gfx card? I was thinking of buying the AMD Athlon 64 X2 7750 Black Edition, cause i heard its the best X2 at the moment? So how much of a change would that be from the 4400+? Or are the 6000+ or the 6400+ better?(or some other AMD cpu) The budjet is under 100 euro's :P
Dunno i just feel like i should get more fps in games, then i get atm.
For example when i played crysis i got like 15-20 fps when i went to the larger places, like the first village thing :P, it wasnt even on high settings.
I got problems in tf2 two, when there is like 5 - 10 people on screen my fps starts lagging down to 30-40's, and when im just walking around its like 120fps... doesn't matter what gfx settings i have on.(I know the mat_queue settings...but they dont help that much...)
In cod4 its ok, untill i get to the larger maps and there is the airstrikes and helicopters all around, my fps drops to 70 on lowest settings...and when inside a house my fps is 125 - 250 (cause i capped it there...)
I know about the stuff that humans can only see 60 fps...but in competive gameplay its not an option...like in cod 4 with 125 fps the game reacts to your actions better...
So it can be that the cpu is bottlenecking or im just paranoid xD
I know that its supposed to drop in larger spaces, but the amount it drops is little too large...(50-80 fps drop...) Would i still see an improvment if i bought 7750BE? if yes, how much would it be?
8800GT is a really hot(temperature wise) card. check its temps. wots ur casing?!? got fans in it?!? download speedfan software, it'll give u some idea! oh and what resolution u play the games at?!? wots ur screen size?!?
My 8800gt is pretty cool, its got some Glaciator Fansink. (40c idle, and i tested after playing dark athena for a couple hours and it was only 50c)
I got a prettymuch stock case... I got 1 fan at the back and a large one on the psu.
I got a acer ~23 inch monitor 16:10, i usually play at 1440 x 900. (The native resolutin is 1680x1050)
I tested the Speedfan software and on the first page called reading it says that all of them are under 40C. (Doesnt show gpu only shows it in a program called smartdoctor)
Hmm, I wasnt quite awake back when I posted. An athlon 4000 is pretty old stuff, so yeah it might be a tiny bottleneck. Upgrade to like 6000 or something (or higher?)
Also, If possible, install vista/windows 7 on another partition, and test if its the same on a fresh OS
But im not going to change OS, i had XP earlier and i had the same problem.
I think im just gona buy a new CPU, as you said the 4400+ is history . But im not sure which one to buy, 7750BE is tempting 2.7ghz (overclockable to 3.2ghz i hear) and only 60e. Any other suggestions would be nice?
Tri-cores = phenoms The phenoms that are in the same price range have alot smaller clockspeeds. So with phenom you get 1 more core with less clock speed.
Dont know if it is worth paying 100e more for a 4x, i looked at the Benchmark, and as you can see the 7750 and 810 have almost no difference in performance at the resolutions i play at.(although it might be better for future releases) But Yeah the phenoms II might be more efficiant in normal applications and stuff, but in gaming i dont see the difference.(couple fps?) correct me if im wrong.
