Cpu and motherboard

Looking for a cpu and motherboard combo for a new gaming build. Would like one intel and one amd recommendation. I don't have a budget but don't need top tier stuff either. Basically the most bang per buck ratio.Would be nice if it matched the color scheme of the parts I already have but not a deal killer. I am going to give this to someone as a gift.

I already have the rest of the parts. I will list them below if it will help. All new.

Case- Fractal define r4 (white with window)

psu- Antec 620w semi-modular 80plus bronze (red and black)

dvd drive- Samsung

ram- patriot 8gb (2×4gb) ddr3 1600mhz viper (black)

gpu- Asus 270x (red and black)

ssd- Samsung 840 evo 120gb

All this I had laying around (sometimes I buy in bulk when I see a good deal) and will probably put a Corsair close water loop cooler on it. Overclocking is not needed but if it can then that is a plus. Would like the ram supported natively on the motherboard but most do nowadays.

Thanks for the help.

FX-8320 or FX=8350 with an Asus M5A99FX Pro/Evo or a Sabertooth R 2.0. A Crosshair V Formula Z would be the highest tier option.

4670k with a z87 Pro would be a good option. The Xeon 1230v3 is a good option too if you don't want to overclock.

for the intel, you could also go with the 'ASUS Maximus VI Hero'. it is an ROG board that is Black/Red. looks sexy. i REALLY hope whatever chipset is next for intel, they have a better color for their non ROG boards than Baby shit yellow lol Blue was really cool. maybe we can see green next? :P

is 8 cores (AMD) really necessary for gaming?

and thanks both of you for the help

I like both the ROG boards mentioned just need to decide AMD or INTEL. The ROG boards are probably overkill for the person I am giving it to but they have drool factor.

+1

Also, budget?

well, as far as i know, at the moment, no. in the future, yes, but in the future, yes, but by that time, there will be new CPUs. just look at these charts (not sure why the 4670k isn't there. they have the 3570k, which is it's predecessor, so just kind of think of the 4670k as that, but a lil better.)

i had my friend get a 4670l (on sale at the time for $209) and an ASUS z87-Plus ($150). so i mean, that is about $360. so you could save a nice $50 easy going with a cheaper board. but yeah.

8350/4670k. you won't go wrong either way really

Thanks that chart was very helpful.
