Cox popups in my face :_(

Hello peoples of teksyndicate!

I have had cox internet for many years and everything was fine. However since today I've been getting a pop up almost every time I open a new tab and even in the steam browser when I was mid game  looking like this:

I've done research on various fourms but people are just complaining, not really doing anything about it. The people at Cox said there's no way to disable it but to buy their 10$ a month security service. Is there a way I can disable it without cox's help?

And if not is there a small chance that there are other internet companies out there who do not abuse net neturaltiy, scam you, give you 1 mb speed for insane prices, give you random pop-ups, or just annoy you?

How old is your modem? Do you have your router set to use DNS servers other than those learned via DHCP from the cable modem?
If my memory of how those works is correct, the pop-ups are injected via the DNS relay through Cox network.
I have a Zoom 5341J (a DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem) setup with Cox (not rented) plus manually defined my DNS servers in my Netgear router, and have not had any of those pop ups.

Change your dns and the popups stop. Try google dns or level 3 etc.
