Ok my cousin said he built a rig about 3-4 years ago the he stopped using it at all when he got an Asus ROG laptop.
Well he has told me what he remembers currently,he won't know more till he is able to pull it out of storage.
I don't know much but what little will help to at least set up a baseline price and i can change it according to what all the parts are.
What he told me was that when it built it 3-4 years ago it was a $1000 CPU and 2 $1000 GPUs,that is all he can remember right now.
Now he has said it will let me make payments on it,but i would at least like a baseline to go off of,also any advice on changing the offer based on what is has would be helpful.
Thank you guys for the help.
Sorry if i put this in the wrong place i was not sure where to put it.
Well, odds are there is some sort of Bloomfield extreme edition, which is still, nothing to sneeze at. And well, the only $1,000 gpus that I have seen are 590's. Quite a beefy system. Anything like that has to be at least worth $4,000+ at the time he built it. Now, however, not so much. Depending on how much you have, maybe like $2,000 would be a good price, espicially if its been used and in storage forever. As a starting point, maybe do like $500 first, then another $500 over 4 months.
Also, this may sound obvious, but make sure it still works if it's been in storage for a while. I know a girl that bought a motorcycle that had sat over the winter without even checking to make sure it worked. Turned out the carburetor had gummed up on it and it would not start. It was relatively minor problem, but my point is make sure the computer still works. I know it seems obvious but believe it or not she isn't the only person I know who has purchased something without making sure it works. Just because it worked the last time he tried it doesn't mean that is still the case.
Don't let me scare you.
/Rant Over.
If he really put in as much money as he said, that computer should still be a solid performer today.
But in all seriousness, I'd say he's pulling your leg.$1000 CPU, 2 $1000 GPUs....He's either lieing, it's fried, or he's dumb. You don't go buy another computer after 3 years of use if you dumped $3000 in the CPU and GPU alone unless something is majorly wrong with him or the computer.
Well the problem is that is all he remembers right now until he can dig it out of storage,i will def post back when i know exactly what parts he has,but looking at cpu's the only one that relased around that time(that was not a server cpu)and was close to or right at $1000 is the I7 980x,and for the gpu's unless he used a workstation grade card the only one even close to $1000 that came out any where near the same time were the gtx 590 and the 6990,but they were both only $699 when they came out.
But for now lets just say that the cpu is a I7 980x,and the gpu is either dual 590's or dual 6990's.
Going off of just that what would you suggest be the most i should pay for those parts?
Well he was making 75k a year at the time, and he was spend the rest of his money smart, and he said the reason he quit using it was cause he fell in love with the portablity of his laptop, and it was just fine for gaming.
Without knowing how much he used the parts, the conditions the computer was in while it was in storage, and only having a blind guess at the containing hardware.... tell him you want to see it before you offer up a penny.
I hate to be this guy, but I'm going to be this guy. If you built a desktop with an i7-3960X Extreme and SLIed Titans... don't you think you'd still be using it 3-4 years down the road?
Well i am not making a lot,i only pull in about $800-$900 a month, but i am going to try and talk him into letting me go ahead and get it from him after i pay the first payment, i also play on checking it to make sure it works, but if it does and if it is what i think it is i may just replace my new rig with it lol(fx8150+7970 lol).
I will make sure the parts work before i give him any thing, but i was just thinking that is would be nice just to have some kind of ballpark to base my offer off of when i do find out if it works and what parts it has.
Me i would keep using it,but i think the reason he quit using it is cause i have noticed that he does not like to stay is one spot for much at a time like i have seen him sitting texting for only 5 minutes before he gets up and starts pacing around while still texting,so i think he fell in love with being able to move it around with him.
If he shows it to you, and it actually does have the premium parts. All still functioning, and was kept in a dry-ish climate that didn't get too hot or too cold.... probably like $700. He's looking to get rid of it, and you're family... He should bite.
Ok guys i was talking to him this morning and he is low on money cause he is currently on unemployment,AND he just got into a wreak this morning that should of killed him,but he is just fine,so his car is totaled and i had told him that if he cold pull it out next time we are near it i would make an offer, and he said that his laptop is in pawn for $200,and if i could get it out for him,or at least pay to extend it so he does not lose his laptop(the interest should be $20-$50),that he would GIVE me his old desktop.
