Could use some help please

I need a new PC mostly for doing my work which is photography and image manipulation.  So Photoshop, Lightroom, etc.  I also am planning to to do quite a bit of video editing with Premiere and probably use After Effects as well.  If it doesn't drive the price up to much I would also like to play PC games on it as well, but that's not ultimately necessary.

This isn't my first pc build but the last time I did build one was 2005.  So yeah I could use some advice on what parts to use.  I'm looking to build a budget pc, but one that performs well, has a shelf life of at least 2 years with the option of it being upgradable.

Most 'artists' seem to use Macs, but I'd rather build a budget pc than pay the 'apple tax'.  Again, this may not be easy lol, but I want good performance, it doesn't have to be the best, but good.  And I'm looking to save money.

When I start looking around at different pc parts I get 'option paralysis', froth at the mouth and fall to the floor in the fetal position.

Help please!

What's your budget?

Do you need an operating system, keyboard, mouse, or monitor?

The budget would be around $1000 if that's feasible.  And I would need a monitor, keyboard and mouse yes.

Im looking at using Windows 7 64 bit prothat here's no real specifics I'm looking for on the keyboard other than maybe one with the led blue keys.  Yes I'm a sucker for pretty lights.  The mouse would need to be wireless, and as far as the monitor setup, I figured I'd use a two monitor system, maybe LCD unless there's a better suggestion for the price point.  The only peripherals I will have would be about a TB of external hard drive space. And on the pc build I would like to use a SSD drive for the OS and programs and have anorther drive for storage which of coursedoesn't need to be SSD.  I don't know anything about overclocking but would at some point love to do that with this system with some sort of water cooling.

As far as what I'm looking to do video wise, It would YouTube type videos in HD, anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes in length.  As well as 15 minute short films.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2Tirk This would be great although, I'd recommend using this processor http://pcpartpicker.com/part/amd-cpu-fd8320frhkbox If you want to go slightly over $1000. It would be a good performance boost. Otherwise you should be set. :)

Thanks very much, I really appreciate the advice good sir.

I've played around a bit and made up a slightly different parts list.

I played around with what you posted.

It would get you like 98% of the performance for $130 less.

Wow, very nice!  Thanks for taking the time to do that.  Much appreciated.

After putting some more consideration into how much video editing and gaming I want to do I revised my parts list again.  It's a bit more than $500 over my original $1000 dollar budget but I moved some other purchases aside until later so I could at least do this much with my build.  Any constructive comments are more than welcome.

  • The 4770K is overkill. Get a Xeon or an i5 (Xeon especially if you're doing video editing). The difference in frame rates for gaming cannot be justified by the price. Use the extra money on graphics or a better monitor.
  • I would stick with ~600 W power supply if you're not doing SLI. You can still manage a light overclock with 600 W.
