So a few months back, I pulled the trigger on a new system. Here are my current specs with new and returning parts alike;
CPU: i7 5930k
Mobo: MSI x99s Krait motherboard
RAM: 16GB (4x4gig) Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR4-2666
GPU: 2x Asus Strix 980's (had one already, added a 2nd one for SLI)
PSU: Corsair RM1000i
Case: Silverstone Fortress FT02
CPU Cooler: Corsair H80i GT
The plan was to go with an AiO cooler for the build, so I decided on the Dominator Platinum memory as clearance wasn't going to be an issue. Well, now that I've had it for a while, my case (without serious modding, which I'm not really comfortable with) won't support any other AiO's other than 120mm rads. The pump noise is getting on my nerves more than I thought it would, so now I'm at a point where I'd like to get a good tower air cooler but the Dominator Platinum is making it very hard.
There are some coolers like the Cryorig coolers that state they support all memory, however closer inspection shows that that is due to it only going over on one side; for a z97 or z170 setup this is fine as the memory is only to one side, however with x99 I have memory on both sides of the CPU, so having it hang over one side still won't work.
So I'm basically stuck at this point unless I bite the bullet and replace the RAM as well as the cooler, and I'd rather not as I do like the Dominator Platinum memory as it fits my build pretty nicely. Does anyone have any ideas or recommendations for me? Thanks in advance.
