There seems we might see multiple colors of Cherry MX RGB switches. EDIT: Seems it is confirmed we'll see various types of Cherry MX Switch types, in Red, Black, Blue and Brown. (Hey Logan, Qain, Pistol and Wendell, any chance you guys might make it to CES 2014 to check these out these switches, new products and maybe make some extra videos for us there? =D )
Anyways, have fun with this topic, guys. I'm hoping the Cherry MX RGB switches won't be much more expensive than regular Cherry MX switches, so custom RGB backlighting might end up cheaper to the end user. This way I can finally have something like a Corsair K70 with Cherry MX Brown switches and white (or light aqua) LED Backlight, as I've been dreaming of for so long. =) Or maybe Corsair might actually go to the trouble of releasing a Cherry MX Brown/RGB Corsair K95 for both typing and gaming. \o/ (Oh well, dreams may be just that for now...)
Believe me. Some part of the community will come up with a custom PCB to use these on. Personally, I like to get my hands on some of the housings so I can swap some Green stems into them. The clear housing looks pretty damn cool.
It just means that now they keyboard manufacturers won't have to worry about using clunky LED solutions. Now they can just order a Cherry MX RGB switch, and be done with it. It's easier, cheaper, more efficient, etc.
It's not game-changing. But it's a relatively big thing in the world of keyboards and other gaming peripherals. Not at the same level of Oculus Rift, Virtuix Omni, or things like that. But for those who like beautiful mechanical keyboards that look as nice as they feel to type on, it's a big deal.
Obviously, loads of hype. But I'll be happy to see a Corsair K70 with Cherry MX Brown/RGB switches. I'd buy one. =D
The backlighting turned me away from Corsair. I didn't want brown switches with blue backlighting - I wanted brown switches with brown lighting! The way it is supposed to be...
Most people before had to make a choice between a membrane with RGB or a mechanical with a unicolor LED. This opens more possibilities and since the led switches are manufactured right at Cherry, it could also make these RGB mechanical keyboards much more competitively priced to what's already available on the market.
The next thing I want to see Cherry do is to make a compact switch for chiclet keyboards.
+1 for your comment. 20 brownie points for you. 50 points for Gryffindor! (OK, maybe I'm going a bit overboard, but you get the idea. =P )
Yeah, totally agree. Now we may actually have custom-backlight colors in mechanical keyboards, which would be epic. I'd also love to see smaller, thinner switches so that way I can have a wireless mechanical keyboard if I'm gaming from the couch with my upcoming SteamBox project. =)
Lastly, I'd also love to see Cherry come up with some recommendations to help keep keyboard noise down. We've seen the rubber O-Ring mod that Logitech used in their G710+ Cherry MX Brown keyboard, but I'd also love to see silicone rubber on the bottom of the keyboard (about 0.3mm to 0.7mm thick) to keep the keys from bottoming out and clicking when they hit the bottom. This would allow a much softer feel for the keyboard, while also keeping it much quieter. It could make Cherry MX Brown keyboards (with the rubber cover) even quieter than Cherry MX Red switches (without the cover).
In 16.7 Million colors, only for the PC Master Race. Each key it's own color, so now there won' be any excuses for companies to not have multi-color baclit keys on all keys, other than saving pennies by not puiing in a cheap ARM processor, some RAM and some flash/NV memory to save profiles and/or macros.
