Hello, I've been struggling for a few weeks now in regards to a WD Blue 1TB i have that i cant use due to Windows not seeing it but The Bios does, My first thought was that its not intialized, but it is indeed, it spins up, no weird noises. The next thing i tired it to plug just the HDD in and unplug my 500gb Samsung 850 Evo I've been using and sure enough the drive shows up in the boot order and when it tried to boot i get the Error code 0xc000000F and it gives me the option to repair it and i go to plug in my Bootable USB and hit the button to take me and nothing happens, the screen moves then goes back the error code screen if that makes any sense like it tried but failed to take me to the menu to try to repair it, At this time there is nothing important on there, i think at most the corrupted OS and maybe a game or two from steam, Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you for your time
I am not knowledgeable enough to know exactly what might be wrong here, haven't encountered this problem myself. But I'd definitely try booting your computer up from a (any, really) live linux usb and see if it can access the files on the drive. It won't be able to repair windows, but you can maybe pull out some stuff or poke around in there / format it if you want to.
If a live usb can't access the drive I'd say there might be something more dire wrong than just a corrupted win install. If you can access the drive and poke around / copy files to and from, then I'd say it's "just" a corrupted win install and the drive is otherwise healthy. You can also have a look at S.M.A.R.T data for the drive now that you have access to it, see if it reports something is wrong.
PS: And welcome to the forum, by the way :) See you are new here.
Edit: Another thing you can do first in windows is to see if the Disk Manager can see the drive. If it can, you might be able to format it from there, or, if it's 'just' missing a drive letter, you can assign it there.
I did try to see if Disc management and it did not see it, the thing is if i have both my main OS ( SSD ) and the WD Blue plugged in when i cut on the computer it sits at the launch screen that shows the name of the MoBo Manufacturer which in this case is Gigabyte and at the bottom of the screen you will see the newly named Circle of death, I've moved the WD blue down the boot order but it still gets hung up. Also its odd when i tried to repair it the screen would flash again like i said like it was trying to move forward but gets hung up, Also using Command prompt and Crystal disc with the HDD plugged in its still not recongized. Thank you btw, ive been to multiple forums trying to get this solved so i can get the hard drive back lol
I'm not surprised it hangs when it has two bootable drives to choose from at bootup. I don't know if it's supposed to do that, but it seems rational so it's not so concerning. I once had a similar problem actually. When I'd connect the drive and open the disk manager the manager would hang, only being able to see the newly connected drive and not my main OS drive. Pull it out and restart disk manager and everything would go back to normal. I could not access the files from a live linux usb so I decided the drive had died.
If I were you I'd try making a bootable ubuntu usb, here's a link to download Ubuntu, get the one called 14.04, boot up from it and see if the drive is accessible in any way. It's bed time for me now, but in 9-10 hours I'll be able to help you through it if you're not familiar with linux. but give it a try yourself first, it's not that difficult =) Just use the normal file manager first, to try to access the drive. Then use the search and type "disks" (this guide also shows how to format a drive, be sure to choose NTFS when formatting it), click on the button with the gears in the upper right corner and go down to S.M.A.R.T, here's a wiki explaining what S.M.A.R.T is, it's basically what the drive reports about its own health. Scroll down to the table to see which ones are the critical ones. Obviously, try this before formatting the drive.
