Core2Quad Q8200 2.33GHz in modern games?

I was looking at parts for a new build I am looking to resell and flip for a profit. I found this motherboard - cpu - ram bundle on eBay.

I know that the Q8200 is simmilar to the Q6600, both run DDR2 memory and are a bit old BUT is the bundle works the asking price AND will the cpu keep up in modern games? I was also looking at this as an alternative but I have been lead to believe that the Q8200 is better.

EDIT: I was going to pair this with a gtx 650 or a gtx560.

Bought a HP with those specs a few months back for $57 and free shipping. Had the Q6600 in it though. Not sure what stuff sells for over there but would be hard to get your money out of that over here in Oregon.

in the UK computer part prices are absolute shit. which is why everything is more expensive.

the Q8200 would be fine if the mobo allowed overclocking. but since it's on an intel board I doubt it. anything under 2.5ghz may have a hard time in more demanding games.

Most def you would not be able to play at higher settings, though that depends on the game. Games like Terraria, FTL, Super Meat Boy, or Undertale (literally just naming off games that play well on my 10 year old laptop) seem like they will play fine. I feel that if you get into the realm of anything near AAA or 3d games you'll have a tough time. Though most of the c2q lineup can hold its own in many cases, it still is something that by today's standards and requirements will fall short, especially if it is in a ddr2 system. I know in the later years of the lga775 mobos were made with ddr3 compatibility (and in some cases had both ddr2 and ddr3 slots on the same mobo). Whatever setup you decide to get, it is a-must to have ddr3.

Just my thought on the matter.

The i3 bundle is the better one, that's Sandybridge era so alot newer. That mobo might even be able to run Ivybridge chips after an update too e.g. an i5 3470.

If you are building to flip keep an eye on what CEX have in stock. Often they have cpus at good prices - cheaper than ebay with a limited warranty.

You need to oc that 8200 cpu at least to 3.0 to use it with the gtx560 with "less" bottleneck .

I had an q8400 at 3.2 and my 560 was still bottleneck'd. Had a 660ti as an upgrade and the frames where almost the same. Only when i moved to an fx8350 was i able to get rid of the bottleneck. And in no way do i say to buy an fx or any amd cpu. Maybe find a used i5 2500 cpu or a low end i5 ffrom the newer generation.

i oc'ed this cpu to 3.01 slightly unstable. 2.98 stable gigabyte board. honestly with an ssd. the system is responsive enough. however you will miss out on certain peripheral improvements, usb 3.0, pcie 3.0, and sata 3. also it'll only run with ddr2. afaik its noticibly slowly gaming wise. but for day to day. its fine

Ah he doesn't need that. Edit: ddr2 is still ok for gaming

How is your ssd behaving on that SATA 2 controller?

not as quick in benchmarks. but then again in real world i couldn't tell the difference. installing stuff is still quicker than hdd, but definitely slower than native sata 3. ninite suite install was about 3 minutes slower

boot up is about 15 sec compared to my master rigs 7. no fastboot enabled. idk i'd say it depends on how much parts cost. if its less >50 i'd say its acceptable. anything more is far too much to spend on something as old.

edit: tbh i dont know. i think with newer games. it may stuggle. it wouldn't do witcher 3 or gta 4 for me. only worked on low settings. but i suspect that may be to do with the gpu and not the memory.

if the price is the same as an apu setup. i'd say go the apu route. its newer and possible much more reliable.

I remember running gta IV on almost max settings with the q8400 and the before mentioned 560.

Actually GTA IV is the reason that i got that cpu before i had the e4600 and the game just didn't run with anything below a quad core.

Can's say anything about Witcher 3 because that runs bad on my current setup.

from what i remember the q8200 is not oc friendly. also regarding gaming, it may have more to do with the gpu than the cpu. although that varies from game to game. i only have to say that >50 dollars and day to day use, maybe light gaming?, go for it. otherwise flip an apu system user can upgrade gpu and gain more gaming perf if needed.
