Hey all, i finally ironed out what i want to build, took me forever (thanks for imput and help btw) http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ynJg
i decided to go with a classified 680 because i wont be pushing it past 1300 anyway, and they seem to run at solid 15-20 degrees cooler than other 680 models, due to a much more powerful fan and a vapor chamber. its expensive but i can afford it.
Mboard is asrock z77 extreme4, i hear that is limited for space between cpu and the ram, would most coolers block up my ram if they're not super low profile? i plan on adding two more of the chips i have on that build at a later date.
For my cpu cooling i have a simple coolermaster 212+, should i be using somethign else? or looking at another cooling solution? i have no idea what im doing here and im quite lost, cooling is not as tangable as other specs and i find it hard to figure out what i need.
My budget isn't much an issue, and im looking to be able to keep my compute rnice and cool while i push my gpu to around 1250mhz and my cpu beyond 4.0 ghz, i dont want to over tax either components, but i do want to get a little bit more out of them, and i want an ice cool rig, my case is a full phantom, and im pretty set on that, most people here have swore by it anyway.
also do i even need an aftermarket cooler for my gpu, do they even exist?
I got the extreme 3 and I also had that same CPU fan, and yes I had issues fitting my ram in there...I had to put it into slots 2-4 because I couldn't fit anything in the first slot. I have since gotten a closed loop water cooler, and it takes up much much less space on the motherboard so now if I could fill all 4 slots if I wanted to...so if you are only going to use 2 sticks I'd say you are fine, if not I'd suggest a different mobo, or a smaller CPU fan/watercooler.
Aftermarket coolers do exist for GPUs but I wouln't think its necessary unless you know what you are doing and are doing some serious overclocking that is causing your card to overheat. You could spend an extra 30$ and get this for your CPU and have all the space you need to upgrade ram later on http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835209049
the problem is with that cooler it wont fit all 4 sticks of ram. the closed loop water cooler I'm using only costs 30$ more, which would allow all 4 sticks, but if overclocking isn't in your future just stick with the stock fan. Less money and less problems.
