ok im going with the AMD 955 BE quad core... will the Coolermaster V8 be a good enough cooling system? im also going to have eather 2x4870's or 2x4890's so will that be able to handle all the heat?
Cooler Master V8 is a sick cpu heatsink! the gpus have there own cooling but you want to make sure your case has good air flow as well... if you are getting 2 4870's get a 4870x2 :)
V8, good cooler, cons - big and hard to install.Â
Try the Xigmatek Dark Night, cools better, looks better, easier to install, cheaper
I second 21DD23 in that the V8 is overrated and you should get a Darknight
v8 cools well enough
however, there are coolers that do an equally good job cooling while being less heavy than the v8.
Xigmatek DK wud be one.
here in the philippines (very hot summertime) i'm getting 29-30C idle and around 33C load.
performance wise, there are better choices, but usually people get the v8 for the looks. and that it doesn't cost that much.
V8 is overrated
Bullshit. I have one. It's excellent.
I don't see how it's that hard to install, it installs better than any other cooler I've had, no push pins, or that damn mounting bracket that the Zalman cooelrs use.
And it looks wicked.
Still I have to say, if it wasn't on sell for $55 ($15 off) I probably wouldn't have bought it.
I really like the plain look of the V8,it looks F'N massive though...even in cosmos size case pics, looks like it barely fits!
Too pricey for my taste.
Xigmatek dark knight is cooling just as good or better, and is cheap.
very odd that the v8 costs more here where i live.
V8 2700php (56$ more or less)
DK 2600php (53$ more or less)
and here are some results i found from this site. http://www.frostytech.com/articleview.cfm?articleid=2314&page=5
                       fan speed      thermaltest@150w    thermaltest@85w    noiselvl
Xigmatek          high              16.8                       10.7                     50.7
Coolermaster     high              18.4                       11.2                    52.6
so yeah the DK is a bit better than the v8.
I would recommend the Vigor Gaming Monsoon 3. I'm using it to cool my X3 720 @ 3.5. It does a great job. I'm also running the 4890's in Crossfire under it without any heat issues.
Remember that the Monsoon 3 has a very large footprint which can cause clearance issues for Memory with tall heatsinks.
Either way the V8 isn't a bad heatsink, I couldn't pass up the Duel 120mm fans though
Hey Ztrain, I'd also recommend you put all that good stuff on a x16 x16 mobo.
It's not smart too simply conclude the Dark Knight better than the V8 from one comparison. I've seen a lot of different results in those CPU reviews.
done, done and done..... when i get my computer built and get all my mod shit (such as a PCI Power Bracket 4-Pin x 3 ), some 4-pin extension cords, and 6 12 inch blue cold cathodes for under my glass desk (hooked up to sound modules ). not only will my pc run great, but it and my desk will look great.
mm ok i apologize :). my bad then..
